*The Nexus is, among other things, an architectural cornucopia, a polyglot of materials and styles. It encompasses the pieces of worlds that have bled over or fallen wholly from their original plane, as well as all that has been built by residents and travelers. Towering skyscrapers abut crumbling slums, which stand poised between treetop houses ( Read more... )

"Easy living does no one any good," opines a deep but feminine voice as a very large mechanical being walks past toward the sign. Her armor is crisscrossed with scars, and her gait, though rapid because of length of stride, is nonetheless careful and shows traces of a stubbornly concealed limp.

"It makes one weak." She stops at the sign and plugs a cable into it, then settles back to lean against the wall as she siphons electricity and looks down at the bird being with wary but non hostile red optics.

Is strength the only measure of value in a culture?

*He looks up at her, seemingly unperturbed by the disparity in size, with evident curiosity.*

"I'm talking about mental strength too. Not just the physical. And yes. It's the only one that counts."

Mental strength grows only in times of privation and conflict?

"Any strength is weakened by soft, easy living." One leg shakes nearly imperceptibly and is stilled as she adds, "My civilization died because most of them were weak fools."

I am sorry.

*The little bird sincerely sounds it.*

Will you tell me of your people?

"What about them?"

That traitor leg shakes again, and she gives a rumble like a growl and settles to one knee in such away that says 'I meant to do this. It's comfortable. I'm making NO concession to any weakness.'

*Though it would be impossible to fail to notice, the blue bird of inquisitiveness gives every sign of having accepted the ruse.*

Who were they? What do you remember of them?

((Off for the night, will catch tags in the morning.))

"We have no fancy name. Those around us call us Transformers." She shifts her weight with a creaking of welds. "And I remember over ten million Terran years of history."

((kk :D))

I would enjoy hearing any of it you might wish to divulge.

She looks at him, her alien face inscrutable. "I'm no tale teller or historian. There's little to tell. One wanted all the power. Another wanted to keep it from him. In the end the world and the race died along with the artifact the one wanted to possess. If he hadn't been so weak he would have succeeded."

Do you think the one who wanted all power would have been a benefit to your people?

Long consideration, for one of her race, though to an organic being her pause will be slight. But what she's thinking of saying is treason to one who she swore by her spark to serve.

"No." Those crimson optics rise to meet his eyes. "Because he let the desire for power weaken his mind."

*There's a definite air of sympathy in those black eyes.*

It is always a tragedy, when such occurs.
