Everyone's favorite doctor-stationed-aboard-an-Enterprise (sorry, Bones) is back, this time coming through the door carrying a few petri dishes. Humming cheerfully to himself, he sets the little dishes carefully aside before turning to the Nexus at large. "I've been having the most interesting time relating to the rest of the crew. It certainly isn ( Read more... )

"Some of both, I think," she answers, giving the petri dishes a curious look without getting too close. "Humans are weird. Do I want to know what those are?"

"I think that could be said of anyone, to some extent," he muses. "These? Merely cultures for antibodies. And how are you today?"

"Yes, I suppose everybody's weird to somebody else." She shrugs, which is a lopsided and wince-inducing effort.

"Mostly okay. And how're you?"

"Busy, as always. But mostly suggests that something isn't quite?"

Here's another person to answer his question. Sandra takes a moment to blink then give an amused smile. "I think a little bit of it has to do with pride. Sometimes people have embarrassing situations they don't feel as comfortable they could. Heck I have trouble admitting stuff to my Doctor because I tend to get lectured."

Oh there's a good reason too. She just hates admitting that as well. It's the being pregnant thing.

"Oh, it isn't getting them to admit their problems that surprises me. Embarrassment buds in patients of all species I've known. It's getting them to take advice that has me puzzled."

"Hmmm. Are most of them well, men?" She had to ask. "What kind of jobs do they have anyways? That could tell me something about their mind-sets."

"There is a slight preponderance of males," he admits, "and they're the crew of a starship."

"It's not just a human thing," grumbles Ratchet, scanning the petri dishes.

There's nothing terribly ominous in them, simply microbes destined to become food for something else for the sake of one of his concoctions. "Oh? It's a problem among your people, as well?"

"And some others I've known." He names the denizens of the cultures. "What are you going to do with them? Forgive me for being nosy, but my wife and I are currently doing microbial research ourselves."

"When the cultures mature, I'll introduce them to a Velgarian tree-hare. For the antibodies." He perks up in interest. "What sort of work are you doing?"

Blinking at Phlox. "I thought the cook was the one everyone went to for advice..."

"Well, it's certainly possible they go to Chef for advice as well. I'm afraid I wouldn't know--I hardly see him."

"Begging your pardon, Doctor, but sometimes your suggestions are a little...blunt. And uncomfortable."

"Why, I don't know what you mean, mister Reed." See? This is an innocent Phlox. Really.

No, really.

I mean it.
