Another mech arrives in the Nexus, carefully folding its -- his? -- fifty-foot frame into the lotus position next to a nearby clump of Couches. Turquoise optic-band glowing faintly, he cocks his head to one side ( Read more... )

Although this fellow could outwardly almost pass for human - if one ignored the eye color and the odd facial markings - scans would reveal him to be completely mechanical.

"World I came from's not really 'mine', so there's not a whole lot I'd do to fix the place up unless there's a big change in management first. Let 'em run themselves into the ground, as long as my kind get out of there first."

"I know a place to get repairs around here, yeah." If you can be trusted seems to be the unspoken addition to that.

Well now, such a bitter little one. That's a shame, it truly is. Rigel leans over just a bit to address the new arrival.

"That's not a particularly pleasant, or constructive, outlook to have."

"Really? Then you tell me why I should care about a place my folks had to flee to avoid getting butchered by the people in charge?"

It's going to take more than what's being said to rile up Rigel. Nevertheless, a few things can stand addressing and he does so promptly.

"Ah, but you never mentioned any such thing when you expressed your rather negative outlook. I'm not a mind-reader."

Rigel's tone is mild.

"And maybe, just maybe, there's the consideration that the entire world doesn't necessarily have the outlook of the people in charge. Bitterness doesn't solve anything."

"Don't know if it's been long enough to be bitterness yet. Ask me again after the nightmares stop."

Spider chuckles and shakes his head. "Not your problem, though. And there might still be some good folks back there, but there's few of em we're in a position to help. Not if we wanna stay in one piece."

"Bitterness take no time at all, and your cynical near-sarcasm illustrates that well. Unfortunately."

"Whether it's my problem or not, it'll still my observation. And, really, it comes down to whether you're willing to sacrifice or not."

"So much for the supposed resilience of kids, huh." Spider sighs and thinks it over again. "The place means nothing to me. It's not my home. Never really has been. I was activated here, an almost everyone I care about lives here now. Home's wherever they are."

"Now, if you'd asked what I'd do to protect that, you'd have a different answer. But the world I came from? It's just a place, an not a safe one for my kind. My loyalty's elsewhere."

Rigel simply shrugs, his voice still mild.

"If you weren't 'activated' there, and you don't live there, then it's not your world. And you took my question out of context in order to air a grievance about a world which was never yours, about which you need have no concern."

He does sound just faintly disapproving.

"If your loyalty is elsewhere, answer the question about your world, this world, and no more bile about irrelevancies if you would."

"As I did ask exactly that."

"Irrelevancies..?" Spider's tone, meanwhile, has turned to so much sharpened ice.

"I was activated here because it was the safest place. Then my folks took me back there. We lived there until a little over a month ago, when the government started sending their damned Hunters to butcher a bunch of people who weren't causing anyone any harm. Most of my kind are still kept there as slaves, and you think it shouldn't be any of my concern."

"This is a Nexus, not a world. It's just a place to fall back to. The refugee camp of the Multiverse. I don't know how long you've been here, but I think you need to watch what you call 'irrelevant'." And with that he turns to leave before he loses control of his temper entirely.

"Again, a lack of information. If something isn't known, it can hardly be taken into account, mm?"

"And a world would be any place that exists independently, or so metadimensional theory suggests. If you choose to look at it another way, so be it."

On the outburst of snippish temper, Rigel has no comment and at this point is not at all surprised. Without so much as a shrug, he watches the little one go.
