Enter Ding Chavez, Rainbow Team-2 Leader. He's never been to the Nexus before. But he has been other odd places where he "shouldn't" have been before. You know, other than the "real" world
( Read more... )
Oh hey Ding there's someone checking you out from a rooftop. Looks like a sniper. A bit scrawny and dressed in black, probably, hard to tell from the distance.
And they've disappeared like a ghost. That might be a little unnerving.
Domingo may be good at spotting things, but he's not that good. Is anyone really? Still, he gets that creeping feeling of being watched that good ol' veteran soldiers get when their gut tells them something isn't just quite right.
He glances around warily, the MP4 shifting back into proper action position in his hands. He double-times it to a nice area of cover, and starts taking a bit more of a good look at his surroundings.
It's almost as if someone's playing tag with him. One moment he might think something there. The next it's gone just like that. It's like someone is playing with him.
Should he turn around though he'll see a kid who looks far too much like a vetran. Just the way she's carrying herself. And she's smirking at him. Hi there!
While Ding's eyes play twenty-guesses-as-to-where-I-am the game, the Latino starts to softly curse in Spanish under his breath. He was used to teammates at his back. Friendlies helping him search the area for tangos. Allies. His family of fellow soldiers.
Then it occurred to him. He was used to having someone at his back. He wasn't checking there!
Swiftly he turned, gun swinging around first to take automatic aim. He saw it was a kid, started to lower his weapon; saw the look in her eye, then hesitated and kept up his guard.
"Identify yourself," he says in a calm, yet cautious voice.
"I'm not interested in paradise." Harvey gives as much of a nonchalant shrug as is possible in bulky power armour. "But if I knew that it would mean everything I'd hoped for would come true... that might be worth it."
He's met Tex before... Chavez gives a slight smirk. "Yeah? Sounds like a noble cause. There something major going on in your world?" He doesn't even have to question the idea of people coming from different worlds--he hasn't even been told about that yet--he's had this sort of thing happen before. Unfortunately.
"You probably should have worded that to include people since there's probably plenty of 'em around here that don't care much about material things," Ed notes from his spot a reasonable distance away with firelizard on his shoulder. "And the answer is no, even if I get to not know what I've lost."
"A memory or a person is a precious item to some," he replies. "And that's how I meant it." He stares unemotionally at the kid. "My loss was a memory. Well, several to be technical." He raises a brow. "You sure?"
"I've lost enough that I'm pretty sure I can guess what I'd be losing," Ed says flatly. "Of course, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and wouldn't get the chance to find out otherwise. But I'd rather not risk it."
He gives a thin smile. "I can't imagine any of my alts risking losing our younger brothers."
