One of the more battered old Nexus Couches has been dragged over to a wall, leaving a small gap between the two. Someone is hiding behind the couch. They may have been there for a while, just listening to the Nexus and occasionally risking a peek. Finally, they seem to decide that whatever it is they're hiding from hasn't managed to follow them

Brice buries the bottom half of his face into the couch to suppress a giggle at the last question. "Couches pop up like weeds here and this one's pretty beat up. I don't think any one will miss it."

"Dimension?" Oh dear, this guy really is a newbie, isn't he. "All I know is that it brought me here when it hit me."
"Some places aren't safe at all." He almost looks about to ask something else, but changes his mind.

"So you weren't here when it was tossed at you? Huh, that must mean someone else from your world frequents the Nexus. Did you get a look at who threw it?"
"This place can be safe enough as long as you know where to go. The places where there are more people, closer to the sign, really, have protection from the AV field. The further you go from there, the more likely it is that you can't count on that protection."

She looks a little startled. "I don't know why you'd want to, but if you insist on it, I'm fairly sure the Nexus can replace it. The stolen ones get replaced quickly as it is."

She looks surprised. "You eat furniture?"

"I'm designed to eat recyclable things. It's polyester. That's the almost same stuff as some old soda bottles."
