Now here's a rare sight. Big, waddling, 'adult' Black Mages.

Give them a moment, they're a bit shy.

Finally, one of them speaks up.

"What are good ways to get children to be nice when they don't listen very well?"

He's keeping his distance. Wouldn't want to make the Mages nervous, but he would like to answer.

"What's happened now?"

Meep!

"N-nothing, Kuja, sir," stutters Mr. 128.

"They've stopped pranking Mikoto," adds Mr. 111. "They listen to you. But they don't listen to us."

"They're different from the other hatchlings," adds Mr. 33.

He acts as if they're not nervous of him, continuing on. "I know they are. What are they doing that they should stop?"

"N-nothing," says Mr. 44.

"Not very much," amends Mr. 111.

"They're just different," says Mr. 33. "We... we don't understand them. And they don't like to listen to us."

"'Not very much'?" he asks, while trying to seem friendly. Might not help, but~.

"What don't you understand?"

"Everything," admits Mr. 33.

Mr. 111 has a slightly better grasp. "They're not the same. We know that. Like how you can have rabbits and sheep and things that are tame, and then you have..," vague waving for a moment, "predators." Big word for a Mage, that.

"They argue and squabble and things get set on fire sometimes," says Mr. 128.

"It's mostly accidents," amends Mr. 44 quickly, as if not wanting to get the little Waltzes in trouble.

"The hatchlings being the tame ones, I'm assuming." Not surprising~. It makes sense to him. He can't quite think like a Mage enough to see what they're stuck on, though.

"What are they allowed to do back in the village?"

And the Black Mages start to chatter about all the things they do every day - and things the wingless hatchlings do too. Taking care of the animals, making food, drawing pictures, and so on... It'd nearly bore a Waltz to death.

The real answer, tho, is that the Waltzlets are allowed to do nearly anything they bloody well want, because the Mages have trouble telling them no. - and the Waltzlets seldom listen when they do!

It would, and he can tell. D:

"I get the point." Still trying to seem friendly, instead of amused. "How much time do you let them spend in the Nexus?"

"Whenever they want to," says Mr. 33. Not like any of them are going to tell the Waltzes no, just suggest that they hope they'll come back for meals and bedtime.

Hmm. "...What do they do when you tell them not to do something?"

"Sometimes they don't," says Mr. 111.

"For a while," adds Mr. 33. "Until the next time."

"And sometimes they just ignore us," says Mr. 128.

"And what things do they tend to ignore you on?"

Some fidgeting and Mr. 33 says. "They listen if they're already bored with what they're doing."

"Or if it's close to meal time," adds Mr. 44.

"They don't listen at all other than those times?"

The Mages try to think of other times. Finally, Mr 128 says, "They listen when they want to listen. And they don't listen when they don't want to."
