"Sometimes." Ali gives the girl a curious look, then turns her attention, and a curious look, to Daisy. "Some things are accidents, some things can't be prevented by mortal means, but a lot of things people like to claim are beyond their control aren't really."
Crowley laughs. "You humans... okay, I'll admit that I'm responsible for at least a little of the unhappy things that happen to humans, but you'd be amazed what they think up by themselves! I mean, taxes? Honestly, taxes? I've always thought that Hell had a lot to learn from humans."
He paused, thoughtfully tapping his finger against his crossed arms. "Of course you choose to allow the terrible things to happen. Well, those terrible things that aren't beyond your control, anyway. I mean... you know. Natural disasters, the Apocalypse... that's not your fault. And I guess if someone dies and you were close to them... that's a terrible thing, isn't it? But... that's not your fault, either, is it?"
Again he paused, wondering exactly where he was going with this. "Erm... that's the problem with free will, isn't it? Ineffability and all that. You know, He refuses to get involved. But... that's just my point of view."
"Welcome, young lady. All that transpires is someone's choice," observes a pale woman with a low, whispering voice. "Though not always one's own. Nor is one always touched by the consequences of the choices one makes." A hint of a smile tugs at her lips as she adds, "all the more reason, I find, to choose carefully."
