Shying away from the children in general and the fuzzy one in specific -- he had no idea what to make of children -- Ballade looked puzzled.

"Why? Once should be an end, shouldn't it?"

"I have found that it is not always the end of a story." The man reached up and gently patted the indigo girl's back and she paused and perked long pointed ears toward him.

"It's only not the end if your creator has plans. Not everyone gets brought back ..."

Ballade watched the little exchange, but continued to look confused and a little wary.

"Can you really die more then once?" questions a voice from a nearby tree. "Isn't dying kinda....it."

"All functionality lost -- that's 'death', isn't it ...?"

Padding over to the tree, Ballade peers up -- and stops, eyes widening.

"If you can be fixed then it wasn't lost, just-" Rock stops at the look. He's very rarely gotten that look and he doesn't like it. He slinks back and hides partially behind a branch.

"Just ... what? Does it make it different, then?"

Not liking this reaction at all but on some level not surprised, Ballade ducks his head and backs away a few paces.

"... I don't know why I'm here. The Doctor doesn't know."

"Don't hide --"

"Little bit," Death says. "Doesn't stop it from happening, though."

"It would be ... nice, if it did stop. But I don't think it will."

"Sorry about that. You never know, though. Eventually it stops for everyone."

"You sound certain."

And Ballade is just as perplexed by that, as anything else.

If dying is anything like being in a coma, then yeah, not so much fun.

"I don't know. 'Coma' doesn't happen for me."

... which might not be exactly true, but Ballade doesn't know that.

*snort* I thought the same thing until it happened.

"I don't think it's the same situation, at all."

The snort draws a briefly-irritated glance; Quint would get the same kind of tone, sometimes.

"Not really, I die frequently. Homunculi self-resurrect, though, so I don't know if it counts."

"I think ..."

A long pause; it looks like Ballade needs time to work this one out.

"I think, that if you're meant to come back again, it's not the same thing?"

"But for that moment I am clinically dead."

"Clinically dead? I don't understand."
