"Boston, of course." Ali has all the kids with her today, since Sasha's gone away; Alured's playing with a rattle and the others are colouring. Somehow, nobody was in the mood for their usual lessons. "What's wrong, darling?"

"Hallo, sveetheart!" Maxim waves a little at Alured and any of the other kids who look up. "I bets it'z nice. Ho, iz just ve'z going leetle mad. Been sorting things out vith Jenka -- she'z done great, but this iz just tricky time. Ken almost smell the marketplace -- ve ken smell the coffeeshops, actuvally. Veird."

"My poor dear. It must be hard, having to wait outside so long." She holds out her free hand to Maxim, while Alured waves his rattle around. "Would you like some coffee?"

And the hand is seized. "You knows, that could be nice, if iz not a problem." He grins. "So vhat'z the best thing about Boston, anyvay. Besides vun I already knows, vhich iz who iz living there?"

"Venice iz pretty, yah. Veird smell, though."

"I'z guessing that iz in America, 'cause I'z never heard of it. Like I'z guessing you'z never heard of Mechanicsburg."

"I've always liked Paris, it's certainly one of the more beautiful cities in my world."

"Ho, yah, Paris iz nice. The Voltaires run a pretty goot city. Vell, in my vorld, they does."

"I appreciate the sentiment, although it is no longer neccesary. It has been some years since the occurance, and the place that I currently reside has its own sort of charm."

"Moscow at sunrise on a cold spring morning," he says finally. "Under those conditions only. It is a horrible city, but under those conditions it can be quite serene and powerful. A sleeping giant in its own right."
