Mages?

Mar 11, 2007 19:49

It's the hatchlings again.

"Hi!"

"Are there other Black Mages here?"

"Or Waltzes!"

"Or other people that can use magic?"

"Or are you from a world that doesn't have magic?" That idea was a new concept to them, based on things they'd overheard, and they're having trouble grasping the idea of a world with no magic at all.

"What's your favorite

"Hello darlings!" Ali braces herself for the pouncing to come.

"My favorite spell is one that heals people, because they feel better afterwards. What's yours?"

Yay! Ali! Glomping snugglehugs follow.

A few nod.

"That's White Magic."

"Uh huh."

"We can't use that kind."

"I like float," Kaze says.

"I like my bell. Um, summonning spells," Mistral says. "Because I like animals."

"Fire!" Blaze says without hesitation.

Arashi's quiet for a moment. "I like thunder, but it's dangerous, so I don't get to use it very much. Toad's fun too, and I get to do that more."

The rest either are having trouble picking a favorite or haven't decided on one yet.

She sits, and snuggles, and listens, and pets. She's good like that. "Those all sound like fun. And working together I bet there's not much you can't do."

And hatchlings just love snuggles.

"Uh huh."

"If by black mages you mean those who can use fighting magic, I guess I could count as one." Says a boy wearing a long white cloak.

He bends down and smiles at the smallest mage and murmurs, "Kyrie Elaison." And a bubble of white energy surrounds both of them, "This one makes a small sheild. I like it, cause it was the first I learned to control."

Ten little hatchlings poke at the shield, curiously.

"Is it like Reflect?"

"Uh uh. Different..."

"Hi!"

"We're Black Mages."

Much nodding at that.

The smallest magelet is Mistral, who also happens to have wings. "I like my bell best. Summons. Because I like animals. I like ice spells too, like blizzard."

"Hello! I am Alexander!" His sheild dissapates from around him. "Summons animals? That's cool. My little sister can kinda do that."

"I'm Mistral," says the little one who'd mentioned summoning. "An that's Arashi, and Blaze, and Luca, and Teo and Tavi, and Kaze, and Lono, and Juro, and Galen." Each little hatchling waves as they're introduced. Arashi and Blaze also have wings.

Mistral nods. "Rydia's teaching me. I can call the Chocobos we have in the village, or the cats that live in the Synthesis Shop."

*Crispin has been LOL'd, and is interested to note that these thingummies have the same kind of glowing yellow eyes that he now seems to have.*

...No 'magic' where I come from. Those wretched psychics cause enough trouble ath- as it is. What on earth's a Waltz?

And the hatchlings are equally curious about someone who looks almost - almost - like a Black Mage... except look at those teeth! Whoa!

Three of the ten shuffle forward. Their eyes are more almost-shaped than the round eyes of the others, and the shadow that covers them doesn't cover the forearms and hands of these three - their hands are lavender and clawed. But most noticible is that all three have feathered wings. The tallest even has a ruff of dark blue feathers around his neck.

"We're Waltzes," the tallest one, Arashi, says.

"A Waltz is a Black Mage with wings," the smallest, Mistral, adds.

"What's a psychic?" one of the wingless mages asks.

((Heehee. Easy to do. :3))

I see...

A psychic? *Never let it be said that Crispin would pass up an opportunity to bias young- well, presumably young, anyway- minds.* A psychic's a nasty freakish creature that'll try to get into your head and mess around in there. Horrible things - keep away from them.

A few nods at that.

"You can't be hurt here."

"The Nexus doesn't let people be hurt."

"Uh huh. It's called a no violence field."

"It's like a big spell that won't let bad things happen/"

'I can use magic,' Basi says, 'but there isn't any on my homeworld to speak of.' And that favourite-spell bit is taking some thought!

A puzzled look from a few of them.

"Did you have to go somewhere else to learn, then?"

Basi nods, and decides on a wee bit of context. 'Uh huh. There are a group of worlds that belong together, where I come from. Mine's the one without magic, but when I went to one of the others I could learn some, and my own started waking up.'

A few little nods.

"Like different worlds in the same, um, yooni.. um.. univerds?"

"Universe," another with a better memory for words corrects.

I dunno about anyone here, but I've got enough problem with magic users back home.

And I like the nice, simple spells that do harmless things and earn me a decent commission.

"Problem?"

Ten pairs of glowing eyes blink up at him, puzzled.

"What's a com.. um.. commisson?"

Yeah. The ones who don't want to play by the rules. Cause problems, get people killed. For some reason, they always do it when I'm around, and then I have to get involved.

Getting paid for your services. It's how I pay the rent.
