It doesn't look like Leoben's been getting much rest, these last few days. He looks . . . dazed. Like someone who's been hit in the head one too many times ( Read more... )

A laugh escapes Sharon, and it's not exactly kind. "You're asking if we can escape our destinies? What next, will Six become celibate?"

((Gotta check: Is this an Athena, up to date with canon and everything? Because that's my impression from your info. Smack my wrist otherwise.))

Leoben brushes a finger, briefly and meaningfully, along something under his jaw that might be a bruise and might just be a shadow. "I never said I liked the idea."

((Gods. I haven't had her out in so long--yes. Yes, she is. I kind of handwaved the whole babydeadstolennotstolen thing. But otherwise... *chuckles* Oh, dear. She's almost happily married now...))

"Yeah." Sharon glances away. It's not exactly a guilty conscience, but it's not as though she fought her own destiny all that hard. "Just... Sometimes, I wish I could go back and change things." A snort escapes her.

((I ask because it was another, much pissier Athena who punched him ::grin::))

Yet another Athena, then. Not the one he knows, and not the first one he met here. Leoben's going to have to start numbering them, soon.

On the other hand, this could be interesting.

"Change things how?"

I've always found destiny gives up with a good stomping. Steel-toed boots are a must, though.

"A very practical attitude." Which gets a real, if brief, grin out of him. "It reminds me of another woman I used to know."

I've found practicality to be useful. *half-grins* And I've seen too many people who believed that they couldn't change the world get ground down by it all.

"You're assuming the world is a bad place." He tilts his head, looking up at her. "What about God? Would you defy His plan for you?"

((Victor has a rather rotten homelife. She's also aware that she's written. She's spoken to writers/muns/(she calls them O'Briens) of others. She's working on "arting up" a house with her boyfriend. And several other art projects. She had a play performed. Ummmm. She'll be in a play in the future, playing Lady Bracknell. Her past-patterns're likely to continue. Wow, it's weird to try to define a character. This makes her sound really angsty, but she isn't.))

"I don't really have a choice, t' be honest." Small grin. "Things happen, an' there ain't anythin' I can do about it. But I dun mind. Things get better."

((Nah, I've seen Victor around, I know she's not angsty :'D and on a very trivial note, I read Lady Bracknell in class once in high school, and she is made of awesome.))

"If you're lucky," Leoben agrees. "And it seems like you've been very lucky lately."

((Yay! I'm glad. I wasn't sure if I'd interacted with you as an O'Brien before, or not. :D And yay! Bracknell is so made of awesome!))

"Heh. Yeah." She was a bit...out of sorts. Her fellow hadn't been around for a couple months, (unknown to her, his portal had closed and he was PINpointless) and she missed him. But she hadn't had home-problems for a good spot of time (mostly because she hadn't been home). "I really have been. 'S a fun world."

((Sorry for the delete, again. I've got it right this time, I swear!))

((I think my user-info's fairly complete, but feel free to ask me questions if it's not))

"I think I have free will," Elisa says. "Though I'm not sure how you can tell one way or the other."

"Most people like to think that." Leoben nods. "They think it's the only way their lives can have meaning."

((thanks!))

She nods as well. "See, that's the thing. One of the 'rules,' so to speak, of my world is that history can't be changed--even if you go back in time--because everything that happened has already happened. But if that's true, what does it say about the future?"

in_the_stream March 10 2007, 09:32:59 UTC
"Maybe it does mean your future is already written." Leoben's quite calm about this; after all, it's the way his own world works. "But you have to have faith in the destiny God has written for you. You have to trust that His plan will work out in the end.

Hi, yes, he's a religious nut. It was going to come up sooner or later. And it doesn't help that-- in his universe, anyway-- he's generally right.

"Some of one and some of the other. We have been granted what we never expected to have and are making our way with that."

((Zexion's first and foremost not exactly alive. But he's not dead either. He also might not exist. He used to be a researcher, but then he's world got destroyed. He (and his colleagues) survived but become Nobodies - that is, beings without hearts - in the process. Now they seek after what they lost: their hearts.))

((Oooh, neat. Thanks!))

The last time Leoben got a pleasant surprise, she killed him.

"Some of each," he echoes thoughtfully; this too is a new and uncomfortable thing, the grey between the black and white in his thoughts of God. "If you were meant to survive, perhaps you're meant to succeed in your quest as well."

Which is his way of trying to comfort himself and encourage Zexion at the same time.

((No prob!))

He smiles. "Perhaps, although that remains to be seen."
