Mari smiles. If their stepfather is there, it can't be all bad. Still, better to be cautious.

"Please pardon me for what is, I'm certain, an odd question, but do you know a young woman names Alison?"

*He frowns. Of all the questions he generally gets asked, this is not usually the first. Things along the lines of "Coo, mister, what happened to your hand?" are a lot more likely.*

"...Maybe a weapon? And there's nothing wrong with ambition."

"That is an interesting idea, but he already has a rather lovely collection of weapons." Mari looks amused. "And there's nothing wrong with ambition, but sometimes there's more sense in not making it obvious."

"So what are his interests then?"

"True enough."

"His girlfriend, getting into adventures, trying to talk Mother and Mom and Dad and James into letting him have a car of his own, and art."

"Dynamite?" Dot says sweetly, "That's what Yakko's getting on his."

Yakko glares at her. "You know what you're getting on your birthday, sis?"

Mari watches the siblings quietly, then smiles. "Thank you, Dot, but I don't think he'll have much use for dynamite."

"She's a fan," Dot whispers to Yakko, grinning.

"I don't think our parents would be too happy with us if we got him dynamite. But it's a cool idea anyway."

"Something he likes, yet can't easily acquire under his own power, or something that might aid him on what he wishes to become as an adult."

She shrugs at the second question. "Teenage insecurity, I guess."
