non dates

River steps out of the portal and looks around again.

"If you wanted to spend time with someone, not as a date, just to spend some time together... What kind of excuse reason would you offer when you suggest it?"

Sometimes it pays to be honest. Just tell them you would like to spend some time with them. Ask them if they want to go for coffee or something.

"Honesty would be wise, but uncertain at this point what the results might be."

If it's just to spend time with someone, then no matter what they say shouldn't bother you. Unless of course this is because you like them.

"Just about anything. A cup of coffer or a beer, go for a walk, hit the beach... well, you get the point. If this person interpers it as a date, it might be best with an honest and staight answer."

"Wouldn't be bad if he thought of it as a date... just don't want to jump straight into the deep end. "

"Who says you have to? A cup of coffee with a friend can hardly be concidered deep waters, you know?"

If you really didn't want to be direct you could ask them to teach you something that they're good at. Otherwise, you could just say that you like their company and want to hang out for a while.

They might misinterpret your intentions, but that wouldn't be your fault and there's no way to totally prevent that anyway.

"Playin' a game's always a good one. If y'really want t'keep it from lookin' like a date, invent a game, or a variation on one, 'n' ask yer friend t'help playtest. Preferably, make it a two-player game."

"That's assumin' y'want time with that person 'n' nobody else, of course. Gettin' everybody together fer a game's also a way t'start things up. Makes yer friends feel like they were there at the start, 'n' gives you a chance t'chat."

Nodding "That sounds very clever, I'll have to think if there's a game that we could play... or one that could involve everyone. Thank you."
