*There is a small puff of ozone and then there is a somewhat surprised looking Ginta in the Nexus. He glances at the PINpoint in his hand before a small grin stretches across his face.*

About damn time this thing started working again.*He tucks the device into his vest before addressing the Nexus at large ( Read more... )

Ah, you've got a PINpoint too?

*Wendel's smile fades a little, however, as she hears his question, and she nods shortly.*

Yeah... I got to see one of the 27 True Runes in action, back during the war.

Yup! I've had it for a while but it hasn't been working for the past... two months? More than that I think. I decided to try fiddle with it again on the off chance that it might still work and, thankfully, it did.

27 True Runes? I think I remember you saying something about a rune cannon. Is it anything like that.

Ah. That sounds bad... Good to hear you got it working again, though ( ... )

*nods* Me too. Even the portal I originally found here wasn't working. No clue why. *shrug*

*eyes widen* Wow, these runes sound kinda like... well, shikon shards. Maybe a bit more powerful if they grant eternal life. That's some crazy stuff.

*He looks at the rune then twitches at the mention of wind powers.* Wind, eh? I've definitely seen how that kinda thing can cause a lot of destruction.

*looks back up at Wendel* So... what did it do? *very curious*

The first time I saw it, I didn't know what it was. I just knew that our king, Lino En Kuldes, was supposed to be coming back to Obel with the rebel army, the Vepar... They'd been sailing around uniting the islands, and now they were coming back to drive the Kooluk out of our home. I was at the docks watching the battle... Some reinforcements for the Kooluk arrived, and were sailing toward the Cataclysm, the Vepar's main ship.

Then this... *gestures* ...It was like a wave of black and violet light, almost a fog -- but it shot out like a cannon from the back of the Cataclysm, and the most horrible screams tore through the air... I'd never heard anything like it before. And it completely wiped out the enemy ships... it cleared up so quickly, but the water was already still, like there hadn't been anything there at all...

*gapes*

Dear gods that is some frightening power, isnt it? So, what kind of power was behind that rune? Like a negative energy or what?

The True Rune of Punishment. It's supposed to be connected to atonement and forgiveness as well as punishing those who have sinned. I found out later that it used to be hidden on Obel, but was lost years and years ago, and had been moving from host to host ever since.

...I also learned that it didn't quite work the way the True Runes have always been said to work. Instead of making its bearer almost immortal, it sapped their strength every time they used it... until they finally turned into ash and it moved to another body.

*looks down* ...I didn't learn about any of this until after it looked like we'd lost Lazlo.

A rune of punishment? Wow... how does it decide who deserves that kind of thing? I guess it's the bearer's choice?

*headshake* That's some pretty big consequences, too. This Lazlo... he was the one bearing the rune?

I guess it's the one carrying it who decides who to use it on...

*nods* Yeah... Lazlo was our captain, and the leader of the Vepar. He used the Rune's power to shield us from a backlash when Fort El-Eal collapsed... when the light cleared, he was lying on the deck, and wasn't breathing. ...We set his body adrift in a boat, on the king's orders; apparently, Lazlo had wanted it that way, if it was possible, to avoid having the rune jump to one of his friends...

But somehow, he survived all that, and was brought back to Obel by the ship that found him after he recovered. *shakes head* I still don't understand how he managed it... Guess the rune had something to do with it.

I guess it makes sense for that kind of rune to have something to do with it if it has to do with forgiveness and mercy... Still, that does sound like an impressive recovery. *smiles* It's good to know that your leader came out of all that alright.

Yeah... even though it was kind of frustrating that we'd been mourning him for a week and it turned out he was fine, at the same time, it was a huge relief. After all he'd been through, to think that he could've died just like that...

Yeah, it's... ya feel kinda silly mourning a guy when he's really not dead but the happiness of knowing he's alright really does make up for it. S'not fun thinking of your leader as someone who really can bite it just like anyone else.

Well, not quite in the same way but there was this one time. Kouga was fighting this guy that I swear was more metal than man... zombie... whatever. He'd mostly taken it down but then the guy exploded on him. Kind of a suicide attack, I guess. He was really banged up and he wasn't moving and me and Hakkaku thought he was a real goner. *small smile* He pulled through in the end, though. Guess Kouga's to stubborn to bite it just yet.

*lets out a breath of relief just at the memory*

You and me both. In fact, I was so relieved at the time that I passed out right on the spot... Y'know, given the fact that me and my buddies were all unconcious by the end of that it's a really good thing that Kagome-neesan and Inuyasha were there to get us out of harms way.
