Easy. A commander can go nuts (and believe me, I know) but if you're good to your men, they will follow you into hell. (And I know hell. It doesn't have Dr. Pepper)
* Loyalty to one's commander * Loyalty to one's men

The former is what makes a good soldier, while the latter is what makes a good leader. Far as I'm concerned, it's more important to lead well than to serve well.
*shrugs* I understand such a burden isn't everyone's cup of tea. Still, that's my answer, taken from my experience with my COs; it's definitely better to serve under someone who values your importance than someone who is more interested in sucking up to his superiors.
*blinkblink* Mosco--ooooh, you're from that side! :D This is the Nexus, it's like a meeting place of all different universes. You can find just about anything and anyone here.
Assuming that you have both to answer to? Hm... I guess loyalty to your men since you're responsible for them and you have more lives in your hands that way. At the same time, if you have a good leader then loyalty to him is important to. I 'spose it's most important to have a balance.
*smiles* Oh, they do. They are pretty rare, though. If you're considering looking out for your men more than just one guy you're probably on the road to being one yourself.
"Neither do I, if I am given the choice - though the ogres of Silmasti constantly eyed our land to add to their loathesome empire so I can't rest on my laurels for too long, unfortunately."
