Ed bristled, trying to calm down enough to explain. "My brother's sickly. He can't handle staying there for much longer, and we agreed if it got this bad he'd be the one to enter one of the portals."

He paused as he considered this, then just sighed, scratching his head. "Hopefully Mustang'll have some sense and get them through all right. I guess you're right, I sure as hell can't do anything about it NOW."

Alphonse blinked and tilted his head; lucky for him he'd been told about the alternate thing and gotten slightly used to the idea now, otherwise his mind would be running in circles.

"Do your best to let them know you're okay, then," Alphonse answered. "If they're worried, it means they don't want you to get hurt."

Ed had already met a female version of himself. On seeing the long hair on this Al, his mind immediately jumped to a conclusion that made him twitch.

"He's not the one that should be worried here."
