"How great a sin? That all depends on what it is you're doing."

I am currently too embarrassed to deal with the peple I most respect, who dress sensibly, despise alcohol, and have never uttered a dishonest word in their lives. And so -- at home, not here, I mean no offense -- I find myself speaking, flirting, and drinking a great deal of wine with a bunch of absurdly dressed fakes.

"Then I'd say it's less of a sin and more of a way to punish yourself." She frowns at him. "Why in the hell would you do that? You can find similar people to the ones you're obviously avoiding, all without having to give up any of your morals and whatnot."

She rolls her eyes. "What it will end up doing is turn you into one of them. You'll lose more then you'll ever gain from that kind of self destructive behavior."

Nothing but my incompetence in reaching them.

"Sure it's hard. But anything worth doing is. So stop with the self punishment, otherwise you'll just start hating yourself and losing any chance of whatever if it is you really want in life."

Losing that chance is my reason for being unable to face those I respect, as a matter of fact.

...But you're right. I'll try to keep that in mind.

"Please do. It's lousy when a good guy goes to pieces just to punish himself. There are not enough good men, or women for that matter, in this world."
