"Why, if we were dead, the payment would mean nothing, would it not?" Mr. Croup says this like it's the simplest thing in the world.

"I am afraid I do not see what you mean, sir!"

"Simply referring to another quandary, good sir. I believe I was just recently asking about taking a job to kill "certain someones" who may have been you both. Unfortunately, a weasel-ish looking man already had the contract."

"Regardless, if one wished to retain your services, what are the going rates?"

[the_oldfirm]

"Ah? Someone has hired an assassin for assassins?" Croup sounds pleased. "We would, of course, need to ascertain the nature of the job."

[thedogbotherer]

"I'm afraid I have no need to hire common thugs and murderers." He wrinkles his nose as if displeased.

"Sir." He sounds injured. "We are anything but common."

[thedogbotherer]

"Indeed?" His raised eyebrow indicates that he begs to differ.

"You should do your research, young sir. Not every 'murderer' can guarantee results."

[warriormayhew]

His face pales when he sees them and he backs up a step.

"Ah, Mister Mayhew. We were wondering where you had gotten to!"

He backs up again.

"Tell me, did one of the messengers reach you, or did you just stumble across the Nexus like a lost little lamb?"

"Annoying protection? How distressing." She looks so sad about that...

"It is, indeed, a blow. How long has it been since we've spoken, my lady?"

"Far too long, to be certain. I trust you've been well, other than the annoyance?"

"I was looking for a more specific time frame, but I must agree." He smiles. "You seem to collecting our soon-to-be corpses."
