Grinning brightly, Ali steps forward to ask her question, setting her bag down at her feet as she does so. "In a hypothetical situation, because I really don't want him to get grumpy about this, let's say you know someone who's very stuffy and doesn't like to admit he has a sense of humor. If you were to get said person to not only laugh, but ( Read more... )

"Oh, you should celebrate the breaking of him." She smiles slightly.

"But not so he'd find out, of course..."

"Oh, definitely not. That vould be cruel. And foolish."

"And he'd never have me over for tea then...hypothetically."

"It's a cause for celebration. But in a quiet way so you don't scare him out of doing it again."

"Two votes for celebrating. Thank you."

Angel grins back at this girl. "That deserves celebration. Hypothetically," she says. "I don't know much about driving. Nobody drives in New York."

"And yet there are all those cars..."

"That's why no one drives. There's too much traffic."

She smiles impishly. "So what's the verdict? Did you break him, or is it a breakthrough?"

She grins back. "I see. I think a breakthrough. Provided he doesn't go back to hiding it all..."

You have to take a class-- it's part of driving law in most states now. I think most of them require like 30-odd hours in an approved classroom program and 6-odd with the school's instructor on the road. Sasha and Mortimer could handle the rest of the road time you'll need, though.

I had to do a ridiculous number of driving hours for mine, and I don't even use it!

((Massachusetts Driving Manual, chapter on how to obtain a license.. since Ali's under 18, she'd need to follow the JOL steps-- 30 hours class, 6 with the class's driving instructor, and 12 hours beyond that with a mentor. She's lucky, though-- Maryland has the same class requirements, but requires 60 hours with a mentor.))

((She is 18, sweetie. ^.^ I'm impressed you looked that up though.))

"Well, yes, but I was wondering more whether it'd be better to have them teach me because they know me, or if I should go just with other teachers because they don't know me."

Might be a good idea to start with other teachers until you get the hang of it, at least.

((Just you wait. A lot of states are also going for all first-time drivers having to follow the same rules. :-P And I coulda sworn she was seventeen. Oh well.))

((Yeah, well, nobody shoulda given me a license when I was 16. And don't worry about it. Nobody really realizes how old she is, I think.))

"That makes sense."

"Why my dear, I wasn't aware you'd spoken to my father!" the Count teases, before growing serious. "Celebration, I would say.

"And perhaps a mix of both for the second question?"

"Alas, it was not quite that much of a victory." And no mention that she wouldn't be being nice to his father. Much better to claim one of his hands, if he allows it. "Perhaps. I just don't know."

Of course he allows it, and pulls her just a little bit closer by said hand. "Well, I will say that I learned the basic mechanics of driving from friends, but when I saw fit to obtain a driving license, I had an instructor."

"That might be a good plan." She's more than happy with this plan, and smiles brightly when he pulls her closer to him. "How are you?"
