A question.

Is one cowardly when he leaves a conflict with others who are equally tired of it, to seek peace later?

Or is it better to remain and fight what is essentially an endless war, but not abandon your comrades?

It is prudent to fight and destroy your enemies. They would only chase you down eventually anyway. Unless you are pulling them into a trap.

Then we would be prepared to defend ourselves when the time comes. I do not preach complacency, and lack of foresight. But if one seeks to leave a life of fighting, should that choice not be their own?

If your enemies win the battle, the choice will have been poor indeed.

I really not see downside in second scenario, unless you haf order to the contrary.

Our race has been at war for many centuries.

No ground was being gained. My friend, Optimus Prime, wanted to remain on our homeworld, and stop the Decepticons from spreading outward.

I and several followers decided to leave. It turns out the war did eventually end... but only due to an event no one could have predicted, and what's more, was only a temporary truce.

You left home just because? Your people did not need you to go, and you left anyvay? I cannot understand a decision like that, but the different vorlds iz, of course, very different.

My people were not unified. I presented the idea, and it became clear that was what was best for some of the population. I left with THEM, not alone.

*ka-doubletake!*

*mutters* Just when I thought this place couldn't get any stranger...

To answer your question... I couldn't picture myself leaving my comrades, but I'm sure our experiences differ. There's no moral absolutes in this case, except to follow your - what's the word? - follow your heart.

I second that. Worked for me so far, anyway.

Yeah, tell me about it. Apparently this happens all the time, but you're the first real double of myself I've seen.

While I believe it's wrong to abandon your comrades, I don't think 'cowardly' is the exact word for it either...

My teammate, Ligerjack, would answer with an emphatic yes, though.
