On Newmie.

My friend Newmie died on Tuesday. He was buried yesterday.

I've known Newmie in varying degrees for 12 years. It wasn't until he moved to Raleigh, that I hung out with him more.

And then came the House of Sip era. Birthdays, BBQ's and food cook-offs, fishfries, holidays, we spent with this jovial individual. Bowling nights, The Soup on fridays, Simpsons episodes, MSTK3000 and korean bbq runs. We cleaned his kitchen after every night we spent at his home, rewired stuff, organized his records. Propped his head when he started to snore in a scary way.

He was the music guru of a different era, introducing us all to a new level of understanding of music, and creating a wildfire of Bose speaker purchases and a blossoming of record player and record ownership.

Newmie enriched many peoples lives.

I don't want to talk here about how I am so angry about how he died, how he stopped talking to us. I definitely don't want to touch on how angry I am about his hijacked ultra Baptist "he walketh with the lord, and you are all mistakes if you don't walk with the lord too" FUNERAL SERMON we were subjected to.

I'm gonna leave it as this. Newmie was a sweetheart. He had a dark streak sometimes. He liked his SIP. I don't think I was as close to him as some. Many times I was just the BWOOP and HERPA DERPA of the party. But I learned a lot from Newmie.

He gave me a wonderful gift.

The gift of a musical education. A historical music education.

And the opportunity to hear a true Crooner.

I will miss you Newmie. Walk that path, and may the music follow you where ever it leads.

rip, newmie
