Sallie and I had to pick up the four horses used in the Twinney clinic and run them to the Bench after the rest of the herd had gone out yesterday; we also had Congo in the bunch whom Jack had just picked up from the trainer's in Riverton. We were going to let them out and then zip up after them on the 4-wheeler to open and shut the gate for them, but instead Richard told us to go ahead and he would let the horses out when we were at the top.

He actually waited until we were about as far as the sheepfold (aka 20 meters from the corral) to open the gate. So I turned to look back and suddenly there's Congo and Talek and Commiphora and Sangeda and another little gray I couldn't identify, just behind us and running freely. "Drive, Sallie!" I shouted, so she mashed the accelerator and we raced the horses up the hill.

So there we were, motor humming, the wind blowing out hair into each other's faces, the sun beginning to set and turning everything to a golden glow, and the pounding of five beautiful horses running all out up the hill behind us--one dark gray, one bright chestnut, one bay, two grays.
