Cat Drama

So now that the potential crisis has been averted, I can post with my usual light sarcasm.

On Monday, the boy (who can now be found at tamsin_in_green) and I got out of our classes early do to cancellation. Somebody was having a party, I just know it. On our way home we run into Fairy Girl who was on her way out. She stops the car and tells us that Goblin's paw is looking funny. Okaaaaaaay. So we park, walk in the door, and there's Goblin perched on the couch with his left paw looking like the Elephant Man! From out of nowhere, I get maternal instinct an go into mildly panicked mode. Meanwhile, Goblin can't figure out what I'm making such a fuss about and walks and hops about like nothings wrong. In my mind, he's looking at his paw going, "Cool! I look like Hellboy!"

Tamsin and I take the cat to the vet and she says since he's obviously not in pain, the paws probably just swollen from a bug bite. So she gives him a shot and tells us to give him 8mg of pediatric allergy meds three times a day. This is where it gets fun. First thought on giving him the meds is to hold open his mouth and pour the dosage down. Right. He didn't mind being held, didn't mind having Tamsin force his mouth open, however, the moment the meds hit his tongue that cat was out of reach and FOAMING at the mouth. Lovely.

After one more try at the "proactive approach" which included Fairy Girl McGuivering a medicine dropper using a pen and the squeezy thing from my lens brush (very cool, but just as effective as the last go) we mixed the meds in cream cheese and left it out like someone had been eating it. I have no idea if the cat fell for it(he wasn't even going near the stuff while I was around), but by yesterday afternoon Goblin's paw was back to normal size. Pheeew.

Final note: Cat's are a whole lot smarter than dogs. At least, mine is.
