If it's one thing that's
been prominent in the news,
it's how law enforcement
abuses their authority.
Questioning that authority is long overdue.
This entry was inspired by a recent
phone call, and yet another FB post.
Yeah, I really need to unplug for much longer next time.
Abuse of authority by law enforcement is no secret.
It's sad that it took this long to really start to
question their behavior, as they've gotten away with
so much for so long.
Yesterday, I was called by a local law enforcement
agency, asking for a donation. After his spiel ask-
ing for a donation, I said this in a calm, matter-
of-fact demeanor:
ME: Do you value black lives?
HIM: EXCUSE ME?!?!
ME: It's a simple question - Do you value black lives?
HIM: Silence.
ME: Hangs up.
It doesn't matter what your political affiliation
is, you SHOULD value lives that are outside your
own. Value doesn't mean worship or let them walk
all over you; it just means seeing them as human,
just like you.
All he had to say was "Yes", or even give me
some bullshit PR response. Instead, he got
annoyed, and said nothing - which pretty
much says it all.
How do I value black lives?
Same as most - mind my own business, don't treat
anyone differently because of what they are, and
if I observe someone being treated differently
or being taken advantage of or disrespected, I
firmly tell them it's not okay. Other than that,
I vote for the best interests of all to have
equal access to privileges and basic needs
alike.
That's all that's really required.
I don't feel the need to lecture or drone on, because that shit drives
people away, and makes them form negative stereotypes. It's similar to
the issue I have with extremist feminists - the ones who try to elevate
other women at the expense of men. The ones who will talk to my wife
and either not acknowledge me at all, or act like a scared poodle, or
give me the stink eye, when they don't know shit about me as a person,
while I clearly didn't do shit to them. All they're really doing by
acting like that is reinforcing a negative stereotype, which in the
long run, will hurt and hinder their cause more than help it. It
also reveals their true intentions; just like when a woman shit
tests a man and he responds defensively, it doesn't speak well
of their character. If they can do that to anyone for a biased
reason, they would do it to their allies any time they don't
see or get what they want from them - perpetuating exactly what
their oppressors did; treating anyone you can't get what you
want out of like disposable subhuman garbage.
I've had my own horrible experiences with cops,
even as a white male, and especially with my
significant others.
They've arrested one of my ex girlfriends just for
having an attitude at an intersection when they
were guiding people to a detour. He got an att-
itude with her just because he gave confusing
directions, and next thing we know, his fat
ass chases us down and arrests her. He then
tried to bait me into an argument, but I
ignored his fat ass while calling her
grandparents. Fucking Texas.
I've lost count how many times cops have pulled over my
wife with me in the car, to never actually write a tic-
ket for the alleged "tail / brake / tag light being out"
(and it was ALWAYS working fine when I checked later),
but they sure enjoyed flirting with her and trying to
provoke me into an arrest.
Neither of us will forget the time we were driving
back late at night from WalMart in our old 90's
Toyota, with groceries in the back, only to have
3 squad cars pull us over, give my wife not only
a sobriety test (which she blew 0), but a compl-
etely unnecessary pat-down.
While the same conservative former coworker who
denies COVID and white privilege was actually
constructive in her response this time (asking
what me and other commenters thought would help
improve and check their blue privilege), it
still hurts that someone who can be so kind
and understanding, is so defensive and sup-
portive of authority.
Then again, she has worked in the legal field
for several years. And if it's anything I took
away from working in that office, pretty much
anyone who works in any legal field tend to
be power-hungry, uptight, arrogant, classist
control freaks who are always trying to get
dirt on someone to elevate themselves.
Even when I wasn't accusing them of anything,
I brought up remembering something they said,
just for the purpose of being thoughtful, and
they immediately went into denial mode.
No wonder the attorneys I worked with sneered
when I said I wanted to work with and become
a scientist/engineer - because the latter
actually handles true evidence and follow
sound scientific principles which require
them to look at outcomes objectively and
without bias, as opposed to attorneys
whose function is to influence and
persuade others to take their side.
It's all about feeling superior to everyone
around you without actually being honest or
putting in the real work when it comes to
people in the legal fields. It's all about
being able to justify their biases and
experience no fallout for it.
In short, it's all about being a classhole,
and taking your frustrations out on those
you can abuse with your authority.
Essentially, it's like being royalty in
the Medieval era; and they are no better
than Joffrey or Bolton.
This shit needs to change.
