The holiday one this time; I feel like I should wait, but I just can't!
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot chocolate. I don't care for the taste of eggnog, it's probably the booze.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Both. Some little things get wrapped, but the big present goes under the tree. Things are shifting; we never used to have Santa presents, but now, with Zing...we have our main celebration on Solstice with family/friends, but Santa does come on Christmas morning with a big present. Santa is bringing Zing an easel this year.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Both! And the more the better, honestly. Lights, lights everywhere!!
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
If we can find the real thing, yes.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
Tomorrow?? No, we'll probably wait until the day after Thanksgiving. The tree won't go up until after the 1st sometime, though.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
CJ's lasagna, without a doubt. Mmmmmm....
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
Hmm. I have a lot of not-good holiday memories, but they all run together into one overall good memory; because I miss my mom, I think. Weird. That makes no sense at all, does it? All of my good memories are more recent, or at least the easy-recall ones.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
What truth?
I don't remember, really. It wasn't traumatic, at least!
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Less now - CJ and I used to open on on Solstice Eve, but we usually hold off.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
Tons of ornaments we've received or purchased over the years, and loads of lights.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I LOVE it, but it hardly ever freakin' snows in Portland.
12. Can you ice skate?
No - it wasn't cold enough in Medford, and we rarely got to Valley Falls in the winter. I think I tried it once or twice.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Not right off hand...the pedicures CJ gave me a few years ago come to mind, and my waterbed when I was a kid...
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Celebrating the return of the light with friends and family.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
My grandmother's fruitcake. The sugar cookies I fight making but do every year.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Our gathering at Yule. Watching all the various permutations of Christmas Carol, often in one evening's sitting.
17. What tops your tree?
It depends on how we're feeling when we decorate. It's usually either the Bumble from Rudolph or the Grinch. I am partial to the Grinch, myself (CJ has plushes of these characters).
18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving?
Giving, actually. I have SO much stuff, or feel like I do. I would prefer to get experiences or really practical gifts than more things. Take me to a play, or out on a hike or something. That's probably why I do the Tamson House Gift Exchange - although in 4 years, ONE person has actually sent ME a gift, which surprised me. Very sweet.
The other holiday meme going around is the Wish List - I'll have to seriously think about that one.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
Most of mine are fairly non-trad renderings of classics...Carol of the Bells is a favorite, and I Won't Be Home For Christmas, and Snowball Fight, and Come all Ye Faithful...
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
They're okay. I put them on the tree for guests/kids and maybe eat one a year.
21. Do you like fruitcake? Would you give it to someone as a gift?
I wouldn't force it on anyone as a gift, but I love the fruitcake I make myself. I try not to call it fruitcake though, so that people will at least try it!
22. How long will you keep up your christmas decorations?
It stays up until Twelfth Night.
23. If you could have a reindeer as a pet, which one would you have?
Vixen!
24.Do you stay up to see if maybe you hear sleigh bells?
Yes indeedy, and also to make sure that .... ooh, good plan! Sorry, Santa loves plotting.
