Orlando reached the door and then turned around and walked back to the sofa, stopped to consider if he would sit down, but then turned around again and went into the bathroom. He didn't know if he wanted to take a shower, but when he had his hand on the tap, he changed his mind, satisfied to just splash some cold water over his face. After drying himself, he went back to his pacing back and forth.
Last night, he had found it hard to sleep. Too many thoughts were moving around in his head. Orlando still tried to digest the fact that he was pregnant. Pregnant with Johnny Depp's child. That he would be a father, no, mother, again. Of course, that was only if he was able to keep it. He knew that things could happen and he could miscarry. Though having learned about the pregnancy early, he knew it would make him more watchful in order to avoid things that could endanger the foetus.
It wasn't the only thing that made him sleepless, though. He had no clue as to how he would confront Johnny. He didn't know if there was any chance for him at all. They had become really good friends, had great times together, but at no time, other than the one night together in Toronto, had Orlando showed Johnny that he had any deeper feelings for the guy. He hadn't even mentioned that he was half female and able to carry children. He had never told Johnny that Beatrix was his daughter with David Wenham. A part of him made him that by not telling Johnny in any of their conversations, he was lying. He knew that he was just withholding some things, things he seldom told others.
He knew that he was scared about telling Johnny. He was divided because on one hand, if he told the whole truth, he might lose Johnny as a very good friend and lose the chance to see him at all, but on the other hand, if he didn't tell, eventually he would not be able to hide his belly, and then the need to tell the truth would drive Johnny away for sure. No matter what he did, he felt almost certain that either way would leave him all alone. Orlando knew that his feelings for the older man had extended to the point that he wanted to be close to Johnny all the time. If he could have acted on his feelings, he would want to touch Johnny all the time, feel the warmth from his skin. Knowing that their one night had produced something more, his feelings had become like a fever for him.
As Orlando restlessly walked back and forth, he could not decide what, or how he would be able to tell Johnny everything. He feared what could take place. He wanted to be strong. He knew that he could be strong.
"I'm a fucking man!" Orlando shouted, happy no one could hear him.
Finally, he decided he had to try. What could he lose?
He went to pickup his wireless phone and sat down on the sofa. He drew his legs up and started to dial Johnny's number. He heard the first ring and then hung up. It was wrong. He couldn't. Orlando put his arms around his legs and gathered his courage.
After a minute, he dialled the number again and this time, he let it ring. He started to bite one of his nails.
Just as he began to think that Johnny wasn't home, he heard him pick up and he cleared his throat before saying anything.
"Hi Johnny." Did he sound too cheerful? "It's Orli."
"Hello." Johnny sounded like he had been running.
"I'm calling because I wondered if you wanted to come to my house on Friday." He made a quick pause, "Would you?" Orlando had taken the first step, but decided he could not say anything else over the phone about why he wanted to meet with him.
"Hi Orli. Friday…"
Orlando's heart seemed to stand still until Johnny continued. "Friday would not be a problem. Is there any special time you want me over?"
With the positive answer, Orlando's heart began to beat as it should. "Whenever you can would be fine. I will be home almost all day, as I have a flight to New York on Saturday."
"Would seven be fine with you?"
"That sounds perfect." Orlando hesitated, wondering if it might sound too eager. "I'll fix something to eat."
"I'll bring some wine then." Johnny didn't say anything more for a minute, "I'm sorry, but I have to hang up, something happened with Jack."
"That's fine. See you here at seven on Friday." Orlando was little disappointed, he would have loved to have talked longer to Johnny.
"Okay. Bye."
Orlando looked at the phone for some time before he put it down on the table. Johnny would come to him on Friday. He was happy, though a tiny part of him felt uncomfortable.
"Oh fuck," he said aloud and was up on his legs and almost running to the bathroom.
He hated his nausea and sure, Jadan and the doctor had been right, he felt it. He splashed some water over his face. Rising, he started giggling. He was happy that Johnny wanted to come, but wasn't ready for what he would give Johnny. Not even he knew.
Orlando was happy, he loved children. He went out to the kitchen, took something out to eat, and considered calling Beatrix just to hear her voice. If he hadn't been tied up with the promotion, he might have gone to New Zealand for a few days to see her. He missed her a lot.
She sounded happy to hear him, but before too many minutes passed, she wanted to continue with what she had been doing. He talked for some time with Kate, planning for David and Beatrix to come to England over Christmas. The month seemed so long, maybe especially now. They had somehow always tried to find some way so that he could be with Beatrix at Christmas and her birthday, as well as a week or two in the summer. It hadn't been easy to fit it into the schedule of either he or David. For a while, there had been the issue of the cost of flying between the two countries, though thanks to the success of the films he had made, it was now a lot easier. He knew that they could have solved the issue it if he had tried to get work in New Zealand, but somehow, nothing seemed to be to his liking.
He tried to concentrate on the script he had been sent that day for the project he would start filming next month, though he had a little difficulty. He knew he would need to work a lot with Keira, and he had looked forward to the Will and Elizabeth love story, but now he felt worried by how he would manage it. Thinking back to the last time he had been pregnant, he hadn't had a love story in the film and had been able to keep the emotion right for the role. He hoped it didn't cause any problems now he had more experience.
After trying to reread a page several times, he knew he wouldn't succeed, he still had too many thoughts swirling around in his head. He put the script down for a new raid on the refrigerator, and tried to keep what he ate down. Later, to calm his thoughts, he tried to watch some TV.
