Disclaimer: All I can claim as mine is the way I have written the story (the idea I had) and the people that aren't well-known (stars, actors, actress or character). I have written it only for my own amusement and fun. For me it is one way to exercise my English and see if I'm able to get things together. So this isn't done to try to make any money from it.

Summary: This is set a few years after the end of the war of the ring. Legolas and Eomer fell in love and bonded, but things didn't turn out as they wished. Things happened that made Legolas turn home to Eryn Lasgalen.

After arriving at Eryn Lasgalen, Eomer he had left his horse and his guards and gone for a short walk before meeting with the Woodrealm King. He was there for two reasons. The first, was to strengthen the bond between Rohan and Eryn Lasgalen. The other, was that he wanted to see Legolas again and learn the state of their relationship.

After the journey, he had felt he needed to get his heartbeat down, before he could meet with anyone. A few minutes later, he came to a garden that was flooded in bright, warm sunshine. The air and garden emanated the feeling of life and blessed the tiniest living thing in it. It was so different from what he had heard of the place; even though the evil and the dark had retreated he couldn’t believe the forest had healed so fast.

Entering the garden, Eomer was struck by how refreshing it was and he could feel his strength slowly coming back to him, after the tiresome travel. Already after only a few minutes his body, eyes and mind seemed to open up. For an instant, he relaxed and just let everything come to him. It was a new experience for him and he wondered if this was something that elves were feeling all the time. He had stopped and just let it sink into him. After a long moment he open his eyes. He hadn’t been aware that he had closed them.

He looked around the garden and it was only then that he noticed that he wasn’t alone. He saw that there was an elf laying in the grass, under one of the trees. Long, arching branches hung down to provide shadow for the sleeping beauty. Eomer couldn’t draw his eyes from what he saw. It was one of the most beautiful elves he had ever seen. Not even Arwen or Legolas could come near this enchanting creature. The slanted rays of the sun cast a glowing aura of golden light around the elf and it seemed to Eomer, almost as if he were dreaming.

He thought it was a very rare moment he had come to witness. It was seldom he knew that an elf wouldn’t react when another person was approaching. In fact, when he reflected over it, it was rare to see an elf rest in the middle of the day.

Frozen where he stood, Eomer could not stop looking. A wanton desire rose inside of him and he could feel the deepest love awaking in his heart. He felt that he wanted this beautiful elf, though it was obvious that he would never be able to get the elleth. He could clearly see that she was in the last month of pregnancy. ‘So,’ he thought, ‘the elves seem to feel the world safe, enough that they will bring children into it.’

Seeing that she was bearing a child also meant that she was already bonded to someone. He had learned through the stories how it was with the elves. When they found their soul mate they gave their hearts to each other and were bonded for eternity. He had asked Legolas about it and he had confirmed that that was the way it worked. With all the will power that Eomer could gather, he broke the spell in which he seemed to be caught and as silently as he could, turned and left the garden and the sleeping elf.

On arrival at the front of the palace he was greeted by several guards, one of whom escorted Eomer to the Kings’ study. He knocked on the door, waiting for a reply and permission to enter. When he received it and walked in he was met by a graceful elf. This elf was very similar in appearance to Legolas, though he radiated an air of knowledge and experience, far greater than that of Mirkwoods’ Prince.

“Mae Govannen, King Eomer son of Eomund of Rohan.”

“Well met, King Thranduil of Eryn Lasgalen.”

Eomers heart had started to beat faster and the nervousness he had earlier had felt about the meeting with the King returned. He was well aware that his reaction was heavily influenced by Thranduils’ reputation and with this in mind, he attempted to calm himself. Yet, despite his efforts, he could feel his hands begin to sweat and was happy that Thranduil didn’t greet him with a handshake, as was the custome of men.

Thranduil motioned for him to take a seat in the chair standing next to his desk and his own. Thranduil motioned for him to take a seat in the empty chair beside his own, at the large round table. When the King himself was seated he began to ask about the journey from Rohan and Eomer slowly began to relax. The King wasn’t as intimating as he had first appeared. He didn’t seem to measure up to the rumors about him. ‘Or,’ Eomer wondered, ‘could it be a new tactic he tried?’

“Perhaps we should speak of the matter which has brought you here?” Thranduil suggested.

“I would like that and I hope we can come to an agreement that will benefit both our peoples.” Eomer agreed.

“I am certain we will. I am particularly interested in a trade of your fine horses for our medicine and rope. The horses my son brought back with him, last year have met with our complete satisfaction and we would like to acquire some more and on a regular basis.”

“I am greatly pleased to hear that our horses are to your satisfaction, Sir. I cannot see that there would be any problem in establishing a regular trade with your realm. Our stock seems to slowly grow now, that there are no great wars in which to kill them.”

The King of Rohan paused for awhile and then asked, “Exactly how many animals are we talking about?”

Thranduils answer came quickly, “With limited areas suitable for grazing, I would think not more than thirty to begin with and after that perhaps fifteen or less.”

Eomer sat silently for a time considering Thranduils’ request and whether he would be able to agree to it. The King had asked for a lot of horses and he truly wondered if the Mirkwood elves would need so many. Finally, he decided he could not agree to such proposal, not if he would also have horses to trade with Gondor.

“If you say that you have limited places where the horses can eat, then I would suggest that thirty is too many. We have trade agreements already, with the realm of Gondor, which I am sure you understand we must fulfill. Coupling those commitments with an immediate trade of such magnitude, well, we shall be out of horses ourselves. Perhaps, if we were to send you twenty now and then we could manage up to fifteen. Would that meet the requirements of your realm?”

Now it was Thranduil’s turn to sit in silence for sometime before he answered.

“You are right, Eomer. Thirty would be too many. Twenty now and then as close to fifteen sounds good.”

Their business dealt with, both Kings were silent for a time. What Thranduil was thinking about, Eomer could not tell. Eomer himself, was struggling with his curiosity. Finally it won him over.

“May I ask how it has come to be that you are willing to trade elvish medicine with us?” He asked.

“Can you not think of why?”

Eomer shook his head. He had no clue as to why, though he was very happy to be paid with the special medicine for the horses.

Thranduil continued, seeming to change the subject. “How is your relationship with Legolas?”

“What has he said to you?” Eomer carefully replied.

“He knows, well enough not to keep secrets from me, so I would say I know most of it.”

“Then there is no need for me to explain it to you.”

The elven King smiled a very suspicious smile. “I think we can fix the proper papers for the trade tomorrow. I assume you will stay here for a few days.”

“I agree, tomorrow will be fine and I gratefully accept your invitation to stay.”

“Then we shall end the talk for today and tonight, it would please me greatly, if you and your people would dine with us.”

“It will be our honour, Thranduil.” Eomer replied.

He was about to turn to leave, when a thought struck him.

“Where would I find Legolas? I would like to meet with him before dinner.”

“He will probably be in the ‘sun’ garden. He has to come to spend a good deal of time there, these last few months.”

“The Sun garden, how will I find it?”

“Eomer do you know what? I think I need to stretch my legs, so I will show you the way myself.”

Both kings left Thranduils study and went outside. As a guest Eomer was following his host. He noticed that Thranduil was guiding him to the garden he had visited earlier. The name did suit it, because it still was flooded in sunshine. Again Eomer could feel the peace in it when they stepped into the garden and he stopped just as they had entered.

The sleeping elf had moved from under the tree and was kneeling beside the little stream that ran through a corner of the garden. The elf didn’t seem to hear them coming and it looked like she was washing herself.

Thranduil continued forward to her and lightly put his hand on her shoulder. Slowly the elf rose with some help from the King. Thranduil waved at Eomer to come forward, though he stopped a few meters in front of them, now seeing the elf closer.
