Summary: Someone is out of his ordinary waters

Esme was at the coast line. She decided to take a bath after she'd eaten and it was then that she spotted the ship on the horizon. At first she wasn't sure if it was moving or simply a mirage.

A moment later, a male voice reached her ears, and when she looked more closely across the water she could see a small boat drifting, a man barely visible over the edge, trying to sing. Esme could hear that he was definitely drunk.

She didn't want him to have an accident or for anyone to take advantage of him, so she swam out to the boat. Up close, Esme was confused as he had an unusual smell. He stank of Rum and filth, but there was another smell she couldn't identify. Not anything like her kind. She could hear his heart, but still not like an ordinary human's. On her way out he had stopped singing and passed out, so she had no trouble bringing the boat to shore and moving him onto dry land. She got a good look at him, and he was dressed like he was role playing, as he seemed to be wearing a pirate costume. With the drinking he had been doing, he'd surely gone the whole hog with the role play. It was lucky for him that it was her who'd found him since she didn't feed from humans.

Esme decided she would wait him out and make sure he was okay.

At noon

He was slowly starting to wake up. When he turned onto his back, he wondered why he didn't feel the usual movements of the ship. Slowly he could smell earth, grass, trees and what was probably a woman's fragrance. He opened his eyes.

First the sun blinded him, but the next second it went behind a big cloud. Looking around, he saw that he was at a forest's edge, lying on grass, and in the shadows he could see a woman. She looked fragile, almost ethereal, so he closed his eyes and opened them again. She was still there.

He sat up, trying to fix his clothes. Seeing his hat, he picked it up, dusted the sand off, and put it on his head. He went to greet her.

"Ma'am, I assume you are the one I have to thank for not letting me drift out to sea."

"You're right. You were kind of out of it, so it could have ended very badly."

"Thank you, though I probably would have managed." He paused and then added, "I'm Captain Jack Sparrow; nice to meet you…"

"Esme Cullen. Not to be rude, but I don't think you need to stay in character."

"What?"

"Aren't you role playing?" she asked, as he really seemed offended.

"Definitely not. Haven't you heard of me?"

"I think the children have seen a film or two with someone called Jack Sparrow; otherwise no."

He was silent, as he looked out over the beach and sea.

"May I ask where I am?"

"This is the east coast, of the United States of America, California to be exact. Not that far from Canada."

"Ohh," Jack said. "Not where I thought I would be. My compass has  definitely misled me.

"Is there anything I can help you with?" Esme asked.

"I'll be fine, as long I can get to my Pearl. What did you do with my boat?"

"I left it down on the beach, tied up, so it wouldn't get swept out to sea."

"Good, good." Jack started to feel over his trousers and jacket, and in one pocket found a coin, which he gave to Esme.

"I hope this will help you; now I have to return to my ship."

Jack didn't wait for her to say anything, he just started walking in the direction she had pointed where his boat would be.

Esme stood there, watching him leave. He didn't make sense. She looked down at the coin. She had never seen one like it. She could tell it was gold. For a moment she considered going after him, but she didn't. If it hadn't been for the coin in her hand she would have thought it was something she had dreamt.
