Summary: The line between love and hate can seem very thin and you never know when things can turn out in the wrong direction.

It wasn't easy to carry Orlando in his panther form, but the weeks in captivity had meant that Orlando had lost weight, so Sean managed to carry the panther the short distance to the carriage. The horses moved worriedly when they smelled Orlando's sent. Sean placed the panther carefully inside and then went to calm the horses so he would be able to drive them.

With Orlando so badly hurt Sean tried to drive as carefully as possible, avoiding most of the potholes. A few times Orlando whimpered, and Sean took it as a good thing as he then knew his brother was alive.

Sean had decided to try his luck and bring Orlando home for a few days, until Sean knew that his brother would survive. The same moment his father noticed that Orlando was missing, Sean knew it wouldn't take long before their family would visit him, but if Sean hadn't done anything he wouldn't be any better than the others.

He passed a few settlements and at one with a flock of sheep Sean took the time to buy two of them from the farmer. The farmer looked bewildered when he had been asked to provide the two oldest that he thought wouldn't survive much longer. Sean paid for them as they would be the best. What he didn't tell the farmer was that they would be killed fairly soon. Sean bought them to be spared the need to go out hunting in the coming days.

He parked as close as he could to the house and then carried Orlando inside. Earlier he had asked his wife and children to go to one of her sisters for a few days, which she had thought was a great idea. He had done so because he didn't want to put them in any more danger than he had already done.

Inside Sean checked the bandage he had put on Orlando's leg and saw that it had bled through, so he had to do a new one. He wasn't surprised. Before he settled in for a long night he took care of the horses and sheeps.

There were not many times where Orlando was awake that night. Sean still hoped that none would come in search for him. During the few times Orlando was awake Sean tried to get him to understand that he could not stay in their time period. If they got the days' respite Sean hoped for the best thing that Orlando could do, once he was strong enough, was to do a jump.

As soon as Orlando was able to stay awake long enough to eat, Sean killed one of the sheep. It helped a little, but for both knew that it would be a while before Orlando would be fully healed. Sean had been able to save him once, but next time they might not be so lucky.

Orlando knew that Sean had left for a short time to run an errand when he sensed there were visitors. They knocked and called for Sean and he recognized the voices. He knew it was friends of his father's and stood on the same side as most of the family towards Orlando. He knew that they probably wouldn't give up; he also knew that he wasn't strong enough to try and fight them.

There was only one way he could possibly save himself and at the same time Sean, and that was to do what Sean had asked him to do - jump back or forth in time. He waited as long as he possibly could to save every little ounce of magic so he was able to go and do it, and at the same time wishing he would make it and one day maybe learn the story as to what happened to Sean.

When Sean came back the first thing he noticed was the door hanging loose on its hinges and, entering his home, seeing the mess that was done to it. He ran to where Orlando had been lying saw it was empty and that one of the blankets was missing. His heart beating faster, Sean could only hope that Orlando had been sensible, not to mention strong enough, to have gotten away before they caught him. However, he might not learn what happened any time soon, but if Orlando was captured their father would probably come to give him the news.

Sean was visited several times and questioned about Orlando, but he kept to the story he had invented and was lucky to be spared. What he didn't like was he rarely learned what was being done in the search for Orlando, only that Sean knew they were out to kill his brother. Sean wished that one day they would pay for what they been deceived to become.

***The End***

There will be a story of what really happens with Orlando, called Phantom of the Night.
