I'm sorry this is so terrible. I totally forgot I had to start posting for this challenge today, so I did what I could before going to bed. I'll edit it tomorrow, when I'm not half-asleep (and frustrated because I lost the first story and I had to write it again -and I couldn't remember a couple of paragraphs-).

THE PRESENT - PART 1
Carefully, Sakuno finished trimming the yarn end, left the needles on the floor, next to her, and lifted the scarf to look closely at the handmade piece. It was long, so Genichirou could wrap it twice around his neck, a bit soft and brown, with two thin blue lines near both ends.
She furrowed her brows when the thought of it not being the perfect present filled her mind. It always happened when she had to give him something. It could be because she had never given gifts to boys before him. She still remembered that the first one had been a keychain, and she had been dreading the moment to give it to him every single minute of their date. Against her fears, he had liked it. After that, she had bought him books, Cds and gloves. And after two years of going out, she had decided it was time to give him something handmade. It did not seem like a good idea anymore. Disappointed, she lowered her hands on her lap, sighing. She should have bought a wallet or a woollen hat, but it was to late to regret it. It was already eleven o'clock, and they had arranged to meet the next day in the morning.
A knock took her out of her dark thoughts, and she turned her head in time to see her grandmother open the door.
“Do you know what time is it?” she nodded, and Sumire stepped into the room and walked to her. “Do you want me to help you?”
“No, thank you, I just finished knitting.”
“That's good” she smiled. “Now, go to bed quickly. You should rest before your date.”
The girl did not move and the woman kneeled beside her. She took the scarf and inspected it for a few seconds.
“You did a good work. I'm sure Sanada-kun will like it.”
“Do... you think so...?”
Her grandmother watched her troubled expression, and breathed deeply.
“What's in that head of yours, Sakuno?”
The girl bit her lower lip for a moment before answering.
“I don't think it's a good present. The other day I heard two girls talking in the train. They were saying that boyfriends don't like handmade presents, that they make them feel uncomfortable... And it's not perfec-”
“Sakuno” Sumire interrupted her granddaughter, frowning as she listened to her insecurities.“Sanada-kun is certainly not like other young me, and you know that better than me” the girl nodded, “and, you made it with affection, and he'll know it.”
For the first time that night, the girl smiled. She took the scarf from her grandmother's hands and folded it carefully.
“Thank you, grandma.”
