I thought I might not have enough time to finish drawing this on time for Halloween, but a couple of days ago I ended up having a bit more time and got to finish it then. :D
Things are different in Japan. There's the front/main/"happy side" and the back. ^^ In the front/main side, fandoms are full of love and peacefulness since people only post pleasant things in their fan sites etc., so if you stick to that you never get dragged into seeing hate-filled threads, usually. ^^ There are exceptions but it's rare.
In the back, if you know where to look for it you can find ragey places like threads in 2ch (it's like 4chan in the West), but even there, the rage is different. It's not like the pairing wars in the West. (It's usually focused on rage against Yuuki (for her supposedly shocking/"slutty" behavior of being a shojo manga heroine but still loving two guys... shojo manga fans are hardcore with their idea of heroine purity, some view her loving two guys as if she was double-teaming them sleeping with one and the other behind their backs ^^;) and on Hino-sensei's storytelling in some cases. ^^; ) But the rage is not explosive and spilling out to every site people go to the way it is in the western fandoms, so you don't come across it unless you're really looking for it, for the most part. ^^; (Well, the Western fandoms are lovely too, the people doing all the rage and bashing are a minority, but still, they post it anywhere instead of keeping it only in rage places so that other fans wouldn't have to come across it anywhere. ^^;)
And even when there's rage in 2ch, well, it's 2ch... it's like saying there are trolls on /b/ over at 4chan. XD *lol* 2ch is considered a cesspool of trolling in Japan too, so... XD; And it's unlikely Hino-sensei hangs out there, even if she did somehow find the time to search for the right threads. XD; *hasn't had the time to check there since forever either* ^^;)
Ah, I see, so the rage is hidden in Japan, unlike here, where the rage is on virtually every post's comments. That's interesting, thanks for explaining!
Yuuki's slutty...? o_O How did they come to that conclusion??? She hasn't done anything remotely slutty. In fact, Yuuki's sexy in an innocent way - she's 17, at that point in life where she's still childlike and pure, but is awakening to her sexuality. She's really sensual and attractive. Her supposed "slutty" nature is my favorite thing about her!
However, I do understand the rage towards her. She angers me a lot, not because she isn't virginal and saintly, but because she's extremely insensitive. When she told Kaname she loved Zero but still wanted to stay with him, I just wanted to slap her. Doing that to a guy who's hopelessly in love with you in so cruel, and she does it to both Zero and Kaname over and over again :'( I just wish she'd make up her mind, or at least realize how much she's hurting the people around her.
Hmm, I hope that didn't come off as ragey. As I wrote it, I just felt endless despair, because I've been in Zero's position before (the unofficial love interest), and it felt like I was being played with. It was torture. So I die a little inside whenever Yuuki thoughtlessly hurts them.
It's only the extreme ragey 'shojo-ideal' fans who call Yuuki slutty. XD The exact term was one that means "a person who spreads their legs for two guys at once". ^^;; It's not even about her sensuality etc., it's just about her having feeling for them both. ^^;
It's because there's such an unrealistic idea of the ideal heroine (even more so a shojo manga heroine), and how she can never do anything like even kissing etc. without not being pure anymore. (The most extreme fans go as far as "the heroine talked to a guy/held hands/showed interest in him = she's not pure anymore". O_o So unrealistic especially in the day and age of so many sex-related shojo mangas in more hardcore magazines...) So depending on the fans, it's okay to kiss etc., but only with the one person you'll be giving your purity to/the story ends there, so you must pick once only or be considered a slutty heroine by the extreme ones, especially if you end up in a love triangle... XD (It's okay if two guys like the girl, but if she shows any interest in either of them, it's over, in those extreme fans' minds.)
Which means that when she left with Kaname and then revealed she still had feelings for Zero too on same time, some of the more extreme fans felt like she was betraying the love of them both/double teaming them by having them both in her heart. Extreme fans of Zero felt she was slutty for leaving with Kaname even though she also had feelings for Zero and extreme fans of Kaname felt she was betraying Kaname/double-teaming him with Zero by being with Kaname but still having feelings for Zero. ^^;
The worst is that Yuuki has the best intentions for them both, and never would want to hurt them, but she inevitably hurts them. ^^; She doesn't even realize some of the times that she's being thoughtless, although in cases she realizes afterwards. It sucks to be the two guys, in any case. And their attempts to push her to one and the other because they're trying to ensure her happiness must be agony for themselves. ^^; *wonders if Yuuki realizes this is what the two were/are doing, one and the other*
...which is why I love the threesome, it would solve all their problems. XD Especially wonderful for the side effect of Zero x Kaname. 8D *is shot*
I've been feeling their angst as I develop the paths for the VK fangame. XD;; I have to keep reminding myself that the endings in which she gets only one of the two guys are supposed to be listed as good endings also since they're pairing endings as opposed to endings where she failed to get either, but... XD;; The suffering of the other character that doesn't get picked in either case tears my heart up as I write the paths. XD;; It also doesn't helps that they behave like their canon selves and keep trying to do dramatic self-sacrificing stuff that gets me all "noooo!!! ;_;' as I write the endings etc. XD;;

WHOA O_O!! That's so harsh! That's so much more worse than being called a whore or a slut... seriously, OMIGAWD that's MEAN!! Especially since the poor girl is still a virgin.
I really hope these fans don't hold real life people to those standards of "purity" because honestly, in this day and age, those standards are ridiculous, not to mention hypocritical. So they think it's okay for a guy to date around, but a girl can't date anyone unless she marries him? Wow, they are more old fashioned than my grandma, and she grew up in 1950's India -____-
Are these fans male? I have a hard time imagining girls with such a misogynistic view of love and dating.
And their attempts to push her to one and the other because they're trying to ensure her happiness must be agony for themselves. ^^; *wonders if Yuuki realizes this is what the two were/are doing, one and the other*
You know, judging by the fact that Yuuki recognized that Zero tried to kiss her but didn't realize that he liked her, I'm gonna say she doesn't realize what they're doing. She probably notices the actions, but can't figure out the intent. She's a bit slow^^ but the boys are also at fault because they are much too secretive about their feelings.
It also doesn't helps that they behave like their canon selves and keep trying to do dramatic self-sacrificing stuff that gets me all "noooo!!! ;_;' as I write the endings etc. XD;;
I completely know how you feel!!! I used to write VK fan fiction, but I had to stop because the situations they were in were always so sad and it hurt to make Yuuki pick one of them over the other. Same with fan art, when I try to draw all three together, I can't bring myself to make Yuuki choose one over the other, so I just have her touching one of them and reaching for the other. Haha, this sounds so lame... But really, I just don't have the heart to make her choose one because I don't want the other to be rejected. If only they had other love interests!!! Part of me actually wants Zero to start falling for Maria... or for Kaname to choose his memories of the Hooded Woman, just so that nobody gets abandoned. But part of VK's appeal is in the unrequited love and the heartache, so I'm all conflicted.... Oh! I'm rambling again, sorry, I'll stop :D
