Better late than never, as they always say, so here is my first entry into my journal. I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to be writing here. Aren't these for saying how you feel and expressing your deepest thoughts? Why, then, would I want to share these with anyone but myself? And whatever is written here is now public domain, so anyone may ( Read more... )

Hello! Glad to see you've posted something. The more people the better. And I do hope your summer turns out better than your last paragraph suggests it might...

By the way, would you mind terribly if I called you Linny?

Emmeline! Just say no! It starts out as 'Linny' but trust me...it will morph into something utterly ridiculous. If I had known then what I know now....Spare yourself the agony.

See? Even she says no. Now I fear your nicknames.

Oh, honestly. They're nothing to worry about - unless you make the mistake of getting me angry (or of flirting with me). Nicknaming people is just a habit of mine. I give everyone nicknames. Honestly. I even have a few for my parents... but those aren't very original, so lets not talk about them.

What if I give you my solemn word that you've got nothing to be afraid of, would that help?

I have no intention of getting on your badside, or flirting with you for that matter. Fine, nickname me if you will. It will be an eternity, if that, for me to answer to that. Even my parents still call me Emmeline. Always have.

Yes, it most certainly would.

Wise choice, 'Meline. (How's that for a nickname then?)

Very well. You have it.

...I suppose I'll have to resign myself that I shall have a nickname now. Yes, it's fine.

Yet you can't stand being called by a nickname yourself...

Trixie, dear, you'll find that my friends are quite allowed to use nicknames for me. It's only that your nickname for me happens to be a girl's name - and as we both know very well, I'm not a girl.

So if your friends started to call you Siri, you'd be perfectly happy with that?

I never said that. I was merely trying to imply that if you were to come up with something else, perhaps I'd react more favourably.

Are you giving me leave to come up with another name for you? One that you won't complain about?

Several immediately come to mind.

Not entirely. If you can come up with a name that I won't complain about, you may.

I don't think I want to know what you've got in mind.

...Yes, I would mind. Terribly. Why Linny? Couldn't it be something nicer?
