Constant refrain in my house lately: it's so cooooold here! Last year, I harassed my boyfriend into getting me a
Snuggie -- mostly as a joke because we both liked making fun of the silly commercials. He thought Snuggies were the most embarrassing invention known to humanity and I said if he loved me, he'd get me one. He did. ;) But it turned out to be a disappointment -- totally flimsy and useless for actually keeping me warm. Our house has horrible insulation. So this year for Christmas -- unprompted by threats of proving his affections -- he got me this thing called a
Softie. IT IS AWESOME. I still look like a blob when I'm wearing it, but since I'd either be a blob or just wearing a normal blanket I really don't care. The Softie is heavier, warmer, and just all around great. Recommend!
Another recommendation: True Grit. I know it's been getting good reviews and there is probably awards buzz, so this isn't exactly an original recommendation, but I did enjoy it. Good story and some great characters, including a strong female role. I kind of want to buy it when it comes out on DVD purely so I can study the dialogue, which was fascinating and stylized: old Western lingo with a Coen brothers spin.
Oh, and one other recommendation because apparently I'm fast becoming a fan of a fan:
Mark Watches. The guy who does
Mark Reads also has started a project where he's watching cool shows. He's already gone through Firefly and is making his way through New Who. Just reading his Firefly recaps/reviews made me super nostalgic!!! He's in Season 2 of Doctor Who right now, which is also one of my favorites. Like with the Harry Potter and Hunger Games reviews, I'm loving getting to re-experience these programs that make me flail.
