Summer

Well I've arrived safe and sound in switzerland and I look forward to a reasonably restful summer. Or rather a reasonably restful june/july. I intend to go back in august and look for a job.

Went swimming today, and called Jackie. She doesn't finish her exams till july 7th as swiss universities start and finish much later than english ones. (She didn't start till goddamn november). This means I will probably get together with her whilst maggie is here and the three of us can do something nice together, then spend lots of time with her after maggie leaves. She's not going to kenya this year, and her trip to see her sister in australia is in august, so we should get a lot of time in.

I need to phone saskia as well, I've informed reeti i'm back and am waiting for her to ask about doing stuff together. I should also try and get in contact with ann, though no idea how that will go.

All in all though I won't be dissapointed if I don't see too many people till after Maggie gets here, that will mean more time for writing.

And boy do I plan on doing a lot of writing. I'm going to try to force myself to write at least 5 pages a day, preferably 10, no matter how long it takes. I Have Firemaster boring a hole in my skull, I need to backtrack and do my solo scenes for the cowrite with korgor and I want to start writing short stories. That last task could be the most difficult one to discipline myself to, but I figure I could adapt some of my ideas that are still just ideas scribbled in notebooks.

I have a few ideas down and If I plan them out I will have to take a look at what constitutes short. Hopefully if I can get 5 or 10 and start doing the rounds, one or two of em will eventually get published. If I then think of any more I'll write them out, but I'll keep working on my novels. When i've got some novels done, and a few of the short stories published I'll start shoppiong for an agents going "Look, people like me, sell my book."

This is the plan and it feels good to have one, though short stories may kill me and dance on my grave. On the other hand it might be liberating not to have to worry about the middle as that's always the hardest part for me.

So yes. I plan to spend july writing, august working, and then writing in the evening. Though friends will likely be to destroy this plan by saying "you finished work yet, come out and play?". Especially the boyfriend, which is of course justfied on his part i suppose. Still i intend to stick to some kind of discipline and say I'm only coming out to play or out on a date AFTER that. They know I'm a writer they should be able to deal with it. Plus if I spend time inside my new house, I will be able to get to know the guys i'm going to be sharing with it, and possibly the fifth roomate, who turns out to be a girl called laura.

So yes, I have a plan for summer, plans seldom go 100% the way their meant to, but hopefully it'll work out pretty much this way.

Wish me luck on the short stories

summer, writing, friends
