When I'm old, I'll look back at life and see the whole BIG PICTURE.
Like this?
I think not.
More like collections of little memories, of different people I met at different times, pockets of colourful stories, made up of encounters, conversations, places and lots of human connections.
I was riding past the marina bay sands resort the other day. If you've taken the shortcut to ECP, you'd have witnessed the multiple road changes they've had since the road was created about 2 years ago. I'd be surprised at the new turns, but my mind quickly adapts and I move on. Then I rode past the high construction walls and I glimpsed upon the tall trees lined up in front of the building. A bit further up, the intertwine-y bridge was lit up in mysterious pearly colours, much like the picture above. It was beautiful.
I would have never imagined it like that. When constructions first started in the area, I felt annoyed. Too many metal structures. The network of metal chains on that bridge was fugly. Too much sand and dust. We're losing trees and green spaces. The concrete jungle is happening. I didn't see the big picture.
So it's like that. Things always change along the way, and I don't get to see the BIG PICTURE now, but I get to experience the changes in my path, and I am offered peeks into my future. I can't wait to live it out and get to the end, but I need to be patient and pace myself. It's the along-the-way that matters, not so much the end, when I sit in my rocking chair and reminisce.
