Born under an unlucky star

My poor husband. He is cursed when it comes to being lucky. We decided to take a trip to the casinos in Louisiana this past weekend as a Christmas present to ourselves. We stayed at the L'Auberge du Lac hotel and casino right outside of Sulphur Springs Louisiana.

We arrived around lunch time on Saturday and went directly to the casino and started gambling before we checked into our room. Right away money started flying out of his wallet and was never seen again. Didn't matter what he played. The slots slurped up his money, but not mine. When I was playing craps, I would win until he would come stand next to me and start playing, then we would both lose. As soon as he left, I would start winning again. Same thing with the slot machines, I would win as long as he wasn't near me. This was his really first "casino" experience and he wound up losing most of the money he brought. I felt sorry for him, and told him he needs to start believing in "lucky" things or to be more superstitious. He "hurummphed" at me and said gambling has nothing to do with luck or any superstitions, only mathematical calculation of the odds. I personally was feeling lucky that trip because I had bought a scratch off ticket on Friday and won $25 on it. Now some of you might scoff at a mere $25, but I never win at scratch offs, so me winning was a good thing, a "premonition" of my luck for the weekend. But what made me unlucky was the fact that I left the damn ticket in my desk at work instead of bringing it with me to the casino, therefore I cursed myself into not winning.

Anyways, besides us getting killed by all the chain smokers, we had a good time. I didn't lose much at all, so that helped offset what he did lose. I told my husband that next time maybe he should wear something he considers lucky (a friend of ours wears "lucky underwear" to the casinos).

Too bad none of the casinos in Louisiana are smoke free, there are some in Vegas that are, but it is much cheaper to drive to Louisiana than fly to Vegas. We decided next time we go, we will get there at 8am and gamble until early afternoon, then leave before all the chain smokers get there.

The hotel itself had really good staff and service, but they are stingy with their comps. You basically have to gamble $1250.00 to get a $5 dollar comp. That is what happens when you don't have a lot of competition. In Vegas, some places give comps to get you to gamble at their casino, instead of making you spend a small fortune first. What I did like was the buffet they offered. It was typical food with a spectacular array of desserts, all the champagne you want to drink for only $16.00 per person. That also included all the Alaskan Snow Crab legs you could ever want to eat.

All in all, not a bad trip, except for his "cursed unluckiness in all things". But I think I can fix that, he might just get some "new lucky underwear" in his stocking for Christmas.

Oh oh! And I forgot to mention the guy sitting next to me at the dollar slots. He won $4000.00 on a 4x pay dollar slot. I was so annoyed that it wasn't me, but happy that somebody won something. That could have been moi at that machine, but nooooooo, I chose the triple lucky 7's next to it. Sigh!
