I didn't get any leeches on me in the rainforest this weekend. Mosquitoes and other insect life are another story, however.
I don't like being back down on the hot earth after a weekend up in the clouds.
I've been following with avid interest The Adventure of English, airing on SBS. However, tonight they explored the advent of Australian English, and the experience was somewhat soured by hearing Melvyn Bragg grossly mispronounce words like 'Macquarie', 'waratah' and 'koala' ('KOH-uh-luh'? What's with that?). Did he not think to observe how Australians pronounce such words while filming here? Pronounciation isn't that a big deal, and of course can often vary around the regions of Australia, but he got those three in particular so completely wrong that it was cringe-worthy.
Classes start this week. I had an email from one of my profs saying he would telephone me today about a book I already have, and he hasn't. I feel like sniffing "Why didn't you call me?" in the manner of Taylor or similar.
