The winner at the 2004
American Cheese Society conference in Milwaukee was Gran Canaria, a cheese made from a blend of cow, goat, and sheep's milk. All of the animals are grass-fed (which generally means more flavor in the milk, and thus, in cheeses made from the milk) in Wisconsin's Carr Valley. I've got a li'l chunk of it, and since it's grey and rainy, I'll be inside with snuggy slippers on, sipping white wine and nibbling on the prizewinner. Mmmmm.
