First Day as a Grad Student

So far so good. I have a ridiculously easy schedule. Full load for a grad student here is 9 hours. I am taking a full load, but the majority of those nine hours are taken up by orchestra (oh yeah! I made it!), lesson, and a horn pedagogy "class" that consists of me, one other grad student and our horn professor. My only actual sit-down-and-take-notes class meets one night a week from 6-8. It's crazy. On top of that I have found a part time job at a big Christian bookstore here in town. I'm working 20 hours/week there and I still have more free time than I know what to do with.

Everyone that I've met here has been super nice. It's been great these last few days actually getting to know people other than horn players too. Yesterday I went to a church called Turning Point Community Church. It's a small and fairly new church here in town. Cool thing is the pastor there was actually a pastor in Fayette when I was in elementary school. His twin daughters and I are good friends (graduated high school at the same time). So I've actually been hanging out with one of them and some of her friends from the church lately too.

Took a trip down memory lane this weekend. Brandon and I went to see a production of Oklahoma! on Friday at this new amphitheater outside of town. It was pretty awesome. Full orchestra, huge set, live horses, and a real surrey with a fringe on the top. Kind of made me miss our high school shows for a little bit. This was the first show this company has done here and they're already planning shows for next summer. First up - The Sound of Music! :) I think I like it here.
