Ten things that make me happy, in no particular order:
1. Trees. New Orleans has gorgeous trees- particularly the live oaks. They're huge and gnarly and they are too old and awesome to bother with you. The ones in the park are covered in Spanish moss and thus look like something you'd see in a fantasy movie. I love it. Trees make me feel peaceful.
2. Nail polish. Lord, I love nail polish. I keep getting more of it because you can never have all the colors that are, and if you ever manage to, they'll come up with something new and crazy (like OPI's new crackle polish) or your old ones will be used up/dried up and then you have to start over anyway :) Also, given my propensity to wearing very little color, nail polish is a way for me to have some brightness in my ensemble.
3. Makeup. And general hygiene products as well. I freaking love buying new deodorant, which is probably weird but I'm weird so it's okay. But I like makeup (particularly colorful eyeshadow and eyeliners) because it allows me to once again add a little color to whatever I'm wearing and it just makes me look more awake and put-together. Putting it on in the morning is part of my routine now anyway, and routines help keep me relaxed.
4. Sleep. I sleep like a rock, and I sleep a lot. Most people know better than to wake me up for anything trivial because I'm bitchy if my beauty rest is interrupted. In my life, there are few things that twelve hours of sleep cannot cure, or at least ameliorate.
5.
wolfraven80 . Duh. Seriously though, I could write a love post to her. How and why she puts up with my babbling day after day is beyond me. She keeps me somewhat grounded in reality and has awesome taste in music. What more could I ask for?
6. Mardi Gras. I'm not a partier, like not at all. I don't drink so that rules out most of the hijinks that people get up to during Mardi Gras. It's still a fave, mostly because the floats at the parades are pretty awesome, and I loooooove me some free stuff. The spirit of the crowds is really infectious and this year it probably won't even be freezing like it was last year, which I will greatly appreciate. It's pretty awesome that I get to experience something that people travel from states (and sometimes countries) away for.
7. Music. And Pandora Radio, because I don't know what I'd do without it. And Youtube, which I use primarily to look up music videos. I listen to music all the time. It's why losing my mp3 player was so crippling. When I'm happy, I listen to music to boost the mood. When I'm bored, I listen to have something to do. When I'm upset, I listen to music to calm me down. When I'm writing or doing school work, I listen to music to help keep me in the mood (hah).
8. Bad fanfiction. I have tried before to explain to various people why I just adore me some poorly written fanfiction, but I've yet to come up with a really satisfying answer other than I'm kind of strange and Mary Sues make me giggle with unabashed delight. People actually read my bad fanfiction Tumblr too, which helps boost the warm fuzzy feeling.
9. Jewelry. Particularly jewelry I can actually wear. My neck is seriously allergic to silver (yes, even sterling) so I can only wear leather/nonmetal necklaces and it's hard to find really pretty ones. I have two rings that I permanently wear, and a couple of ear cuffs (my ears aren't pierced) that I wear during the daytime. The rings are simple stainless steel, one's blue and the other's glittery silver. One of the ear cuffs I got from Ren Faire (and it is thus sentimental) and it's a twisted wire with a dangling black bead. The other is a little semi-circle that slips on that has moons and stars on it, a pattern which is a fave. I like wearing jewelry because it's pretty and partly because I like to fidget with it. :)
10. Lay's Baked Ruffles- Cheddar and Sour Cream flavor. I'm eating them right now. They're gorgeous. I don't know how many bags of these things I've eaten. And I get sick of food really fast so it's saying something.
There are many more things that make me happy that I haven't gotten around to (steak, sugar, nice-smelling rooms, breezes, sunlight, gummy vitamins, new pens, fancy pencils, full moons.....) and I guess that's a good thing. It's good to have many things that make you happy :)
