Snapshots

Author: forensic_csi_89
Pairing: Olivia/Rachel
Rating: R, just because of the theme.
Disclaimer: I do not own Fringe, Fox does.
Summary: A collection of drabbles which show small snapshots into the life of the Dunham family. Actually these were little segments which were stuck in my head but did not fit into the longer story I am working on.

A.N.: This is my very first fic. I have never felt the strong desire to write for any of the multiple fandoms I love reading. It wasn't until I read the fantastic Olivia/Rachel stories written by fembuck that I was struck by inspiration and decided that I had to do my bit to help this fandom. I just hope that it does it justice. This is also un-beta'd so any mistakes are my own.

Olivia had never really noticed before how much her sister had done for her recently. No, that wasn't true. She had noticed, just never really thought about it, let alone acknowledged or even thanked Rachel. It wasn't until Rachel and Ella had moved out of her apartment that Olivia finally realised how much she had taken her sister for granted.

****

One day, quite out of the blue, Rachel announced that she and Ella would be moving into their own place. Olivia believed it was out of the blue, as she had never asked, nor told Rachel that she needed to move out. Olivia wondered if this sudden decision had something to do with whatever was going on between Rachel and Peter. The two of them had grown close recently, spending time talking on the phone, or going out for coffee.

****

Rachel felt that it was time for both her and Ella to get out of Olivia's hair. She sensed that the older woman needed her space, and she couldn't get that with both herself and her young daughter hanging around. It was about time that she found a place and got herself on her feet. Her husband had filed for divorce, so there was no going back to him, and she had extended their welcome with Olivia far longer than what she had considered customary.

****

The waiting was not even the hardest part. When she wasn't sitting at Olivia's bedside holding her hand and wishing for her to wake up, then she was pacing the halls of the hospital allowing Peter or Charlie or Astrid or Walter or any number of fellow colleagues to visit with her. No the most difficult and gut-wrenching part was not having an answer to any of Ella's questions about "when will Aunty Liv wake up?"

When Olivia was released from the hospital, Rachel and Ella moved back in to her apartment. "This is only temporary," Rachel told her. "Just until you are back on your feet again."

Ella was pleased at the arrangement. She loved her Aunt Liv almost as much as her mother. She wouldn't tell her mother this, but her Aunt was better at reading night-time stories - she used all the best voices. Moving back in with her Aunt made her happy. She also knew that her Mom was never happier then when they were living with Aunt Liv.

"Ella told me how excited she is to be staying with her Aunt Liv again."

"I have to tell you it's nice to have both of you back here again. I never realised how much I would miss you until you were gone. You know the both of you could have stayed here as long as you wanted."

"I know that and I appreciate your generosity and all that you have done for the two of us. But, I felt that you had enough going on to have to deal with your recently divorced sister and her child on top of your job and everything else."

"So you moving out had nothing to do with your relationship with Peter?"

"What relationship with Peter? We are just friends. That is all."

"Well, that is good to know."

****

It had been building for awhile now. Not so innocent touches and longing gazes. What had changed the nature of their relationship neither could guess. The leap from this to a physical relationship was unexpected by both, but not unwelcome.

Olivia, like with everything else in her life, was the one who took the lead from the first time they made love. The very nature of all their intimate activities was more often than not very tender albeit highly passionate. But at times, it could be quite frenzied, as if they couldn't get enough of each other's touch.

****

Neither knows where this is going but they have learnt to make the most of what they have got right now.
