Because the thing that makes sense when I'm swamped with plotbunnies and schoolwork is to hop on the bandwagon and post a writing meme. Right? Right.

Never Will I Ever meme: Name three fics you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return, I will attempt to write a snippet of one of them.(And by the way, you people who told me I need to write ( Read more... )

Ok, so I couldn’t actually finangle them getting drunk. It was all I could do to wrangle this scene out of them, but I had a lot of fun with it, so I hope you enjoy. :) Also, edited for a typo.

Tom meandered his way through the crowd, pausing to mingle here and there. He shook hands, made small talk, and touched base with individuals poised to become New Caprica’s rising powers.

As far as weather went, they could not have asked for a better day. The sun was shining, and when the breeze let up it could almost be called warm. Gaius’s speech had gone over well, and the general air was one of optimism. In the center of the settlement, music was playing and a makeshift dance floor was attracting throngs of people eager for something to celebrate.

Tom smirked when he spotted Laura Roslin and William Adama among the masses. He picked up a drink from the bar and made his way over.

“Laura,” he greeted her with an easy smile.

“Tom.” She put on a look of friendly professionalism, undoubtedly for the benefit of anyone watching.

“And Admiral, it’s good to see you joined us,” he said to Adama. The admiral nodded stiffly.

Tom Zarek wasn’t normally the type to gloat, (ok, well, maybe he was) but this was too good an opportunity to pass up. He turned his attention back to Roslin. “I just wanted to congratulate you on your new position as head of the educational committee. I look forward to working with you and getting a proper school system started.”

“Thank you, Tom. I’m sure it will be a pleasure helping build our… bright future.”

Her use of the phrase from Baltar’s speech made him grin inwardly. Her expression hadn’t changed, but the inflection she’d used… He raised his glass. “To bright futures.”

Laura easily followed suit, echoing his words with seemingly no trace of irony. Adama reluctantly held up his glass as well, and they drank.

Tom turned to Adama. “And of course to our men and women in uniform who continue to serve and protect us far beyond the call of duty,” he offered graciously.

It was highly entertaining to watch the admiral’s face darken and yet be unable to contradict the words Tom spoke. People were watching them curiously, and all three were aware of it. It wouldn’t be perceived well at all for the leader of the military to ignore or rebuff such a seemingly complimentary toast.

Then Adama surprised him. He raised his glass and met Tom’s eyes. “To New Caprica.”

With a smile, Tom inclined his head and they drank together once again. To any outsider looking in, it would appear as though three powers were uniting and putting aside their differences. Only the three of them knew exactly what kind of battle of wills was taking place, and that Tom, for once, held the upper hand.

As Tom made his exit, he no longer bothered to contain his grin.

That had been fun.

Okay, that? Was TOTALLY canon. There is absolutely, positively NO WAY that didn't happen. Hehehehe. And yes, he's totally the type to gloat :)

GREAT stuff! :)

:D Yay! I was rather hoping you would like that. Because every time I write Tom, it's your Tom I end up channeling. :) Thank you!
