My life is plagued by mistakes, broken love, slaps in the face... but I'm trying to care.

Hm. I just got an anonymous comment on Truth on Our Side from someone who said it was interestingly written, and then outlined a bunch of reasons why Gaeta didn't have the best interests of the fleet in mind. I found that interesting, considering I don't even know how you would stumble across my fics unless you were a Gaeta fan? But anyway. I left ( Read more... )

Um, not the academic advisor, but it looks like Steve Boone is the guy to talk to for both theater and film stuff. :)

“Turning Over A New Leaf”

Felix Gaeta stared at the ceiling of the brig, wishing he could stop his mind from replaying the events of the previous days.

What if I had just said ‘no’? he thought to himself, picturing the President’s insistent expression when she’d asked him to interrogate Gaius Baltar, the Old Man tacking on an “I’m not ordering you to do this, son,” in that way that he had of making requests even more demanding than orders, like you’d let him down as not only a soldier but as a human being if you didn’t agree. Who am I kidding? They double-teamed me. There was no way I could’ve said ‘no.’Felix was most intent on mentally reconstructing the actual meeting with Gaius, though, trying to make his hazy memories of it resolve into something coherent. Gaius had looked almost happy to see him when he’d first walked into the cell. After a cold look and a clipped, formal greeting from Felix, though, Gaius had slipped briefly into guilt-quite the rare emotion for Gaius; really, he should feel honored to get that much out ( ... )

“Tigh thought you deserved a medal,” said Dee, “but he didn’t think the Old Man would go for it. So, Tigh’s gift to you is that he told the marines not to confiscate your other gifts from you while you’re in here.”

Felix stood in silent bewilderment at the idea of Tigh giving him any kind of gift.

“These are from the bridge bunnies,” Dee handed him a pack of cigarettes, “though I still think you should cut back on how many you smoke a day. And this is from Lee and me,” she struggled to fit the small jar of Chief’s hooch through the bars, but it made it. “And…”

“Oh my gods, where did you ever get these?”

“Oh, I didn’t get them anywhere,” Dee said. Then she batted her eyelashes and added in a teasing schoolgirl tone, “They’re from Lieutenant Hoshi“Carrots!” he laughed in astonishment, holding the two stunted but already washed and scraped orange vegetables in his hands almost reverently, a little in awe of the fact that their leafy green tops were still attached. They hadn’t been on the algae diet very long, but it didn’t ( ... )

The idea of a bridge bunny giving away carrots of all things makes me giggle with glee.

Now that you say it--how could I not have seen that?! Here I was thinking about the practicalities of what people could grow quickly and without much soil when I chose carrots, but you're absolutely right! :D

Felix almost didn't recognize the officer at the tactical station- not because he didn’t know him, but because it felt so long since he had seen himself like that. Happy. Honestly happy. Earth was real. And it was inhabited. Even when it had showed up on DRADIS he wasn't sure he believed it.

"Want some?" asked Louis, handing out his thermos of steaming hot coffee to Felix.

"Of that algae based stuff they call coffee? No thanks."

"It's not made of algae. It's real. Dee brought me some from Earth," said Louis, now grinning like a fool ( ... )

Ha! Excellent! Louis is converting Felix to the love of Starbucks! That right there gets my approval. :)

This is adorable and so very sweet. I think I'm going to pretend this is what happened. Starbuck found Earth, they named coffee for her, everyone lived happily ever after, THE END.

(Also: Felix's indignation that they're giving Kara credit for the jumps he plotted- :D)
