She knew Saera was there before she spoke, but she waited for the question before she looked up. "Not at all, Dr. Parrish. Your company is always welcome."

Saera sat down, the first few minutes passing in awkward silence. "So, um...would you rather I treat you as a person, or as a part of the city?"

She tilted her head, slightly confused. "Can't I be both? I'm one of the city's systems, and I appear as a person." She dropped her eyes back to the table. "I...confuse people, I know. Honestly, I'm not even sure myself, whether I'm just a subroutine or something...closer to human."

Saera smiled sympathetically. "Yeah, that does sound like it would be a bit confusing. How about I just treat you as yourself and not overthink it? What would you like me to call you?"
