curionenene Humming nervously to himself, Zhou Mi made one last pass through the living room, making sure everything was off the floor and all the cushions were fluffed up nicely. He'd spent the better part of his evening cleaning the living areas of the basement, scrubbing down counters and vacuuming the living room at least twice.
KyuHyun was supposed to be bringing his friends back to the house that night and he would meet them all, for better or worse. He was especially nervous that KyuHyun wasn't telling them beforehand what was going on and there was a possibility that they would react badly to their friend living with a vampire. Especially a vampire that was marked for death.
Sometime in the middle of his cleaning frenzy, SungMin had shown up, but made no comment towards Zhou Mi bustling around. The two had come to a better relationship since the other night, though Zhou Mi was still hesitant to corner him alone like KyuHyun had suggested.
It was after midnight when Zhou Mi finally sat down at the table, giraffe cup in front of him as he stared at the door and waited.
“Aw, come on, Kyu! Don’t keep us in the dark like this. What is it you need to tell us?”
“Just wait a moment, alright!” and soon enough KyuHyun appeared, smiling pensively at Zhou Mi, walking up to press a short kiss on the vampire’s lips. “You ready?”
"Ready as I'll ever be," Zhou Mi said, getting to his feet. He took a deep breath, smoothing down his shirt and stood as tall as he could. "They aren't armed, right?" he asked, glancing at KyuHyun.
“No. I insisted them not to be.” KyuHyun reassured, patting Zhou Mi’s arm. “Alright! You can come down now!”
“Is it a pony? Tell me you got a pony, KyuHyun!” A sudden blur rushed down the stairs, jumping excitedly.
“No… it’s not a pony, DongHae.” KyuHyun said with no small amount of humour, but he needn’t say more because another person came down the stairs.
“Of course it’s not a pony, Hae. Why would Kyu get a pony. And honestly, KyuHyun, I still don’t understand why you insisted we leave our guns at the door. What if we get attacked now?” A second person came down and looped his arm around DongHae.
"Attacked in Kyu's h-eeek!" Zhou Mi jumped a little when there was a crash and the sound of something rolling down the stairs behind the first two. "Ow." Whoever it was lay sprawled at the bottom of the stairs, rubbing his head. One last figure came down the stairs after him, crouching down beside the fallen man.
"You okay YeSung hyung?"
"Fine," YeSung groaned, sitting up. "Kyu, your stairs are too narrow."
“No. You’re just clumsy YeSung.” KyuHyun shook his head. “Alright. Since everyone’s here, I won’t bother beating around the bush.” Pushing Zhou Mi forward, KyuHyun gestured at him. “This is Zhou Mi.”
“Oh? Hi Zhou Mi!” DongHae skipped forward, grabbing Zhou Mi’s arm and pumped it up and down. “Nice to meet you!”
Blinking wide eyed at the man, Zhou Mi smiled hesitantly, looking to KyuHyun briefly. "Nice to meet you as well...ah?"
"That's DongHae," one of the others said, coming up behind DongHae to pull him away from Zhou Mi. "RyeoWook," he said, smiling so wide his eyes almost disappeared. "You a friend of KyuHyun's then?"
"Uh.. yes, I am," Zhou Mi nodded, taking the man's hand when it was extended and briefly shook it. "Nice to meet you."
“Stand back, RyeoWook.” The last man stepped forward, pulling the smaller man back. “KyuHyun, what is the meaning of this?”
“And the rude guy over there is HyukJae.” KyuHyun sighed, ignoring HyukJae’s protests that KyuHyun call him ‘EunHyuk’. “He’s guessed that you’re a vampire.”
“Woah! A vampire?” DongHae exclaimed, looking not the least surprised. “Really?”
"Um.. yes," Zhou Mi nodded, wringing his hands a little. "Anyone want anything to eat? Drink?" he asked, feeling very uncomfortable all of a sudden.
"Kyu... why do you have a vampire in your basement?" RyeoWook, asked, his eyes narrowed. YeSung was searching through his pockets behind him until he pulled out a small device and started fiddling with it.
KyuHyun sighed, marching up to YeSung and pulling away the device. “I said unarmed, YeSung. And none of you go anywhere near my weapons stash, alright?” There was a warning tone in KyuHyun’s voice as the atmosphere in the room changed.
“I’m not promising anything until you explain.” HyukJae said stiffly, and KyuHyun rolled his eyes at him. “I would, but you haven’t let me yet.”
“Then explain.” HyukJae folded his arms.
So, patiently, KyuHyun explained about Zhou Mi’s situation - how they’d met and everything KyuHyun had found out.
Zhou Mi had never felt so awkward in his life, standing there while the humans looked at him. At least a couple of them didn't look ready to kill him anymore.
"So you brought a vampire that you didn't know, that was on the list, home with you," YeSung clarified the story, chewing on his lip. "At what point did that seem like a good idea?"
"If the vampire's been here this long as Kyu says, then he's obviously okay, right?" RyeoWook spoke up, looking around at the others. "I mean, he could have easily killed Kyu while he was sleeping."
“I think he’s okay.” DongHae chirped up.
“You think everyone’s okay, DongHae.” HyukJae interjected. “But he’s still a vampire, and more trouble then he’s worth. You’re telling us all this because you want us to help you do something stupid again, aren’t you? Well, I’m not doing it.”
“Even if it means a war?” KyuHyun folded his arms. “I understand that you might not want to butt into someone else’s business, but this involves everyone.”
YeSung frowned, looking Zhou Mi up and down. "How do we know this isn't just a ruse the vampires cooked up to draw us out? This has trap written all over it Kyu."
"Maybe we should all look into it before we do anything," RyeoWook said. "What does SungMin think?"
“I’m fine with it actually.” SungMin stepped out of the shadows where he had been hiding. “If it means preventing a vampire war, I’m in.”
“But it’s probably a trap!” HyukJae protested, at which SungMin shook his head.
“I trust Zhou Mi. As well as KyuHyun’s information. You know how methodical he is with such things.” Then SungMin smirked, walking over and smacking Zhou Mi’s butt. “Besides, I’ve known about him a while and he hasn’t done anything to warrant suspicion. In fact, I doubt he’d even be able to hurt a fly.”
Zhou Mi let out a very loud undignified squeak, clapping his hand over his mouth and blushing furiously. They were all staring at him again and he honestly just wanted to sink into the floor at that point.
"You've known about this for a while and you didn't tell us?" YeSung crossed his arms, still looking at Zhou Mi. "Well... he doesn't look like he'd do anything, but I don't know. He is a vampire."
"We've met nice vampires before," RyeoWook pointed out, going to Zhou Mi's side and putting an around his back. "I think we can trust him if Kyu and SungMin say he's okay."
“You could probably trust him more than you could trust YeSung actually.” KyuHyun grinned, hearing DongHae’s loud laughter and turned to him. “What do you think, Hae?”
“I think this will be fun.” DongHae grinned back. “Besides, one more person to play around with is always welcome.”
“Hey, hey. Hae, he’s still a vampire.” HyukJae pulled DongHae back. “I still don’t like it.”
"I don't want to be a vampire," Zhou Mi blurted out, feeling embarrassed that KyuHyun and SungMin were defending him while he said nothing.
"What?" RyeoWook looked up at him with a frown. "You don't want to be a vampire?"
"No," Zhou Mi shook his head. "I hate it, I miss the sun and real food, and I hate that I drink warmed up pigs blood everyday," he said, sniffling a little, his head dropping down to his chest.
“Aww… see HyukJae, you made him cry!” DongHae accused to the splutters of the uptight hunter.
KyuHyun reached out, pulling Zhou Mi into his arms. “He really doesn’t want to be one, but he had no choice in the matter. And honestly, his turning could have been prevented. But obviously, the higher ups in the association are becoming a little too power hungry to care about the association’s original cause to protect people.”
Grateful for the comfort of KyuHyun's arms, Zhou Mi buried his face in the man's shoulder. He wanted this to be over, for the hunters to just believe him. Was that too much to ask?
YeSung sighed a little, looking over to HyukJae. "We really don't have anything to lose. If things are as Kyu says, it's our job to stop this and you know it. Zhou Mi just got caught in the crossfire."
RyeoWook was looking between KyuHyun and Zhou Mi, his lips pursed. "You're sleeping together, aren't you."
“Uhhuh.” KyuHyun nodded - no point hiding it. “And no, he hasn’t bitten me once.”
"I don't bite humans," Zhou Mi said, lifting his head up and looking at KyuHyun then at the others. "Never bite humans."
"It's okay Zhou Mi," YeSung smiled a little. "And I feel like I should be surprised Kyu, but I'm not. And SungMin is okay with that?" he glanced at the other.
Apparently it was, because the next thing DongHae did was to skip over, latching onto Zhou Mi. “Cool~ Let’s sleep together too then, Mimi~”
“Yah! Hae! Don’t be so hasty!” HyukJae ran forward, pulling DongHae back.
Zhou Mi couldn't help but laugh a little at that, and smiled at the way RyeoWook was eyeing him. "Do your superiors know about your little activities?" he asked, glancing at KyuHyun again.
"If they did, they don't say anything," YeSung grinned, coming up behind RyeoWook and putting his arm around the slimmer man's waist. "He's really tall Kyu."
“If they did, I’d probably have been discredited and blacklisted faster than I could open my mouth.” KyuHyun chuckled, “And yes, he really is tall. Not that you could comment, you’re really short, Sungie.”
"At least I'm not the shortest in the room," YeSung countered, patting RyeoWook's belly when he protested. "So we all friends then now? HyukJae?"
HyukJae let out a huff from where he was pinning DongHae down. “Fine. But I’m still keeping my eye on that vampire.”
“He is good-looking enough to keep an eye on.” DongHae commented, before yelping as HyukJae began to tickle him.
Zhou Mi chuckled a little at that, straightening from KyuHyun's arms, smiling broadly. "Thank you, all of you. I was so very worried. Would you like anything to drink? Eat? KyuHyun doesn't keep much around, but I think I can scrounge something together."
"A vampire that cooks," YeSung laughed, shaking his head. "And by the looks of your place Kyu, a vampire that cleans too. You've got a good deal going here."
“Yes I do. But tonight, you aren’t going to do anything, Mi. Just join us in our little fun for now.” KyuHyun sneaked in a quick kiss before turning around. “RyeoWook, YeSung, go order some take out. The rest, let’s go game our hearts out!”
"Wha..?" Zhou Mi blinked as people broke off, RyeoWook and YeSung disappearing into one of the bedrooms while the rest climbed onto the couches or flopped on the floor. "But... KuiXian... I don't... game," he said, still standing where KyuHyun had left him.
“Don’t worry. I’ll teach you.” KyuHyun reached out, taking Zhou Mi’s arm. “It’s easy. And with your enhanced reflexes you’ll probably be beating our asses soon enough.”
“Come on, Kyu! You’re first up!” DongHae called, eagerly clutching the controller in his hand while keeping the other away from HyukJae.
“Alright!” KyuHyun called back, pulling Zhou Mi along. “Just watch me first, alright, Mi?”
Zhou Mi tried to continue to protest, but KyuHyun had a firm grip on his hand. Pushed down onto the couch between KyuHyun and SungMin, the vampire clutched at his knees, looking around with wide eyes. "Doesn't anyone want something to drink? I could get you all some water, or something."
SungMin chuckled, patting Zhou Mi’s knee. “Since KyuHyun is currently in his game mode, and won’t respond to anything short of a natural disaster or an invasion of vampires, I’ll say this for him - relax. It’s just a game. Nothing to get your pants all up in a knot.”
"Easy for you to say," Zhou Mi said, leaning back into the couch and getting comfortable. "I think I have a legitimate reason to be a little on edge still, and I've never played a video game before."
“Neither had I until I met this bunch. Admittedly, I find firing a shot into a target 100 meters away easier than some of the games they play. But, it’s fun in the sense that at least it won’t be fatal if you lose or die here.” SungMin shrugged.
Zhou Mi looked at SungMin, eyeing him for a moment before returning to watch the screen. "Thank you," he said quietly, "for what you said back there. I think you helped the cause out, quite a bit."
“You just looked so uncomfortable, I couldn’t help it. And KyuHyun looked like he was about to pound HyukJae’s head in. Didn’t want that to happen.” SungMin chuckled, shaking his head. “Don’t misunderstand.”
"Misunderstand?" Zhou Mi frowned at that, but nodded. "No, I understand now. You didn't really care one way or another if they'd have killed me, except for it upsetting KuiXian."
“That’s righ- OW!” SungMin let out a yell when the controller hit his face.
“Don’t lie, Min.” KyuHyun smirked at the cursing man. “You’d be upset if they killed him there. What you don’t give an rat’s ass about is if I ever got upset. Don’t be fooled Mi, he’s only with me for the sex.”
Jumping a little, Zhou Mi looked between KyuHyun and SungMin, the confusion all over his expression. "I don't understand, so he doesn't care about you KuiXian? Then where does that leave me? Why can't you just be honest?" An exasperated vampire huffed at SungMin, lips pursed.
Glaring back at the both of them, SungMin folded his arms, turning away.
“He’s at a loss for words.” KyuHyun explained, chuckling. “He’s just a little possessive, so that was what that was initially. And we’re friends, so he does care for me in that sense. But if he didn’t care about you as well, he wouldn’t have stepped in just now.”
"Oh," Zhou Mi deflated a little, the anger going out of him. Lips curling into a smile, he wrapped both arms around SungMin's neck and rested his head on the man's shoulder. "I like you too SungMin."
"What'd we miss?" YeSung and RyeoWook had appeared, the former nearly tripping over a pillow as he went to sit down on the floor. RyeoWook wormed his way onto the couch with EunHyuk and DongHae.
“Nothing.” SungMin vehemently denied, his face red as he concentrated on the screen, mashing buttons violently.
“Yah! Min! Stop crashing into me!” HyukJae complained, trying veer away from SungMin’s kamikaze vehicle.
Now that KyuHyun wasn't focused on the game anymore, Zhou Mi let SungMin go to curl up against the human's shoulder, smiling softly. "This is kind of fun,"he said.
"Yeah, just wait till we start drinking," YeSung smirked, reaching up to take the controller from HyukJae when the round was over. "Then it's really fun."
“Uhuh. Watching YeSung flip over his car over nothing is really amusing.” KyuHyun laughed, dodging a pillow thrown at him.
“Want a go at it, Zhou Mi?” SungMin asked, waving the controlling in front of Zhou Mi.
Zhou Mi shook his head. "No, I'm fine just watching," the vampire said, getting up and retrieving his giraffe cup from the table.
"That is the cutest cup!" RyeoWook had pretty much launched himself into Zhou Mi's lap, looking at the cup with wide eyes. "Where'd you get it? I've been looking for a giraffe cup."
"Uh.." Zhou Mi blinked at the tiny hunter. "KyuHyun got it for me."
“Hands off.” KyuHyun reached down to pinch RyeoWook’s cheeks. “If you want one, ask YeSung to get you one.”
RyeoWook swatted at KyuHyun's hand but climbed off Zhou Mi's lap to bother YeSung again, though the older man barely paid attention. When the older man did pay attention, he blinked at RyeoWook and then up at KyuHyun.
"What's the matter Kyu, not up for sharing?" YeSung chuckled, handing the controller up to DongHae.
“Not at the moment.” KyuHyun pulled at Zhou Mi, happily playing with the vampire’s hair. “We are going on a rather dangerous mission soon. I want as much time with him as I can.”
RyeoWook pouted, but was distracted by the sound of a doorbell. "I think pizza's here," he said, looking back at HyukJae expectantly. "I do believe it's your turn to pay."
"I'll get you all plates and napkins," Zhou Mi said, trying to disentangle himself from KyuHyun.
“No. Not letting you go.” KyuHyun insisted, reaching out to kick HyukJae, who yelped. “Person paying might as well go get everything.”
“But we never use plates and napkins!” HyukJae complained.
“Is that really what you should be focusing on?” SungMin asked amused.
Zhou Mi looked at HyukJae with pursed lips, still trying to get out of KyuHyun's arms. "I just spent all day cleaning, and these couches aren't going to clean themselves thank you. The amount of grease in the fabric was disgusting so it would be a good idea for you to use plates, and napkins. You don't even want to know some of the things I found growing in that couch."
"I'll get the plates," RyeoWook was on his feet in an instant, if nothing but to get out of visual range of Zhou Mi's glare.
“Yes, sir.” The two jokers chorused, trying their best to look meek, causing SungMin to burst into laughter.
“Geez, Mi. This is the first time I’ve seen them so docile.” He chortled, nudging Zhou Mi’s side.
"Hm?" Zhou Mi looked over at him. "Oh, I didn't... I wasn't trying to be mean," he said, hiding his face in KyuHyun's shoulder. "I just don't want to clean the couch again."
"You may not have to, if someone doesn't go pay for that pizza," YeSung said, punching HyukJae in the leg.
HyukJae finally got up, grumbling, while KyuHyun cuddled Zhou Mi in his arms, exclaiming just how cute Zhou Mi was.
“Okay. Enough with all the mushiness. It’s your turn.” DongHae threw the controller at Zhou Mi, shaking his head.
Zhou Mi barely caught the controller, bouncing it between his hands before he finally got a good grip on it. He sat up a bit more, leaning against KyuHyun as he looked at the screen. "Um.. what do I do?"
"Button mash," YeSung said, getting up to help RyeoWook with bringing out plates and napkins for everyone.
“Good enough description. I’ll guide you along in this.” KyuHyun settled his hands over Zhou Mi, slowly guiding the other man through the controls. “Now the triangle is to accelerate and circle is for jets…”
Following KyuHyun's advice, Zhou Mi picked up on the controls much easier than he had thought, and it wasn't long before he had mastered it. "Oh, this is easy!" he chirped, scooting forward a little so he could focus intently on the game.
"Kyu, your vampire boyfriend isn't making this fair," RyeoWook pouted, handing off his controller when he'd lost, again.
“I know.” KyuHyun laughed, plucking the controller from Zhou Mi. “Alright, time for a break, you market spoiler.”
"You're all the ones who forced me to," Zhou Mi pouted, but settled back against KyuHyun again.
"It's too bad we can't get him drunk and watch him play," YeSung said, having wrapped around RyeoWook, the two of them flopped over onto the floor now that they were done eating.
“They can only get drunk on one thing, and I doubt any of you would offer it.” KyuHyun shook his head, placing Zhou Mi onto his lap, and reaching over his head as SungMin offered him another bite of pizza.
"And I would not accept, even if offered," Zhou Mi said, getting comfortable in KyuHyun's lap.
"Wow... you were really serious about now biting humans, huh?" YeSung asked, tilting his head to look up at them on the couch.
"Yes, very serious," Zhou Mi nodded. "Most vampires do not feed from humans unless offered willingly. It's just the bad few who make it harder on the rest of us."
“And it’s the bad few we usually meet so, don’t let it colour your views of other vampires.” KyuHyun added, catching the controller as it was thrown to him again.
"I can't believe I just heard that from KyuHyun's mouth," YeSung said, shaking his head a little. "Is it just me, or has Kyu gone all domestic now?"
“Who’s going all domestic?” KyuHyun raised an eyebrow, throwing a pillow at YeSung’s face. “I can still beat your ass in sparring session, alright?”
The pillow missed, RyeoWook squawking when it hit the top of his head. YeSung scowled, patting RyeoWook's head comfortingly. "Yeah, I'd like to see you try, you big ol' softie."
“Don’t make me go over there and give you a noogie.” KyuHyun threatened, waving a non-committal fist at YeSung.
YeSung was trying to get to his feet, muttering threatening words, but RyeoWook pulled him back down. "No, just once I want to get through a night without fighting," the smaller human said, making sure YeSung couldn't go anywhere.
"He started it," YeSung protested, glaring at KyuHyun, though he settled into a comfortable position with his arms wrapped around RyeoWook.
“And you’re the one who called me domestic.” KyuHyun shot back, ruffling Zhou Mi’s hair.
Zhou Mi squeaked at his hair being ruffled, worming out of KyuHyun's grip and patting his hair down. "I'm sure you both can kick each other's butts quite easily, can we move on now?"
"He is so cute, can we borrow him for a day Kyu?" RyeoWook asked, his big eyes wide and shiny, pleading like a puppy. "We promise we'll take good care of him."
“No. He’s mine.” KyuHyun easily ignored the puppy dog look, winding his arms around Zhou Mi’s. “At least until after our mission’s over. Then we’ll see.”
"Oh fine, hog the vampire," RyeoWook grumped, leaning back against YeSung again, arms crossed.
"I think it's time to get home, or to bed, whichever comes first," YeSung said, looking at the time. "You'll keep us updated on what's happening right Kyu?"
KyuHyun looked very proud of himself as he snuggled up to Zhou Mi. “Yeah. You can crash here if you like. Your rooms are still open. And I’ll keep you guys updated. We should be moving out soon though.”
"Good, we'll get a plan together," YeSung nodded. "No sense in you going to do anything dangerous without us."
"Thank you again, all of you," Zhou Mi said quietly, peeking out from around KyuHyun's arms. "I know you have no reason to help a vampire, but it is appreciated."
“Nonsense.” Donghae stated factually. “We’re hunters and we’re helping you because you’re in trouble because of bad people. It doesn’t matter if you’re vampire or not.”
Smiling at Donghae, KyuHyun nodded, eyeing the rest. SungMin was smiling, as was HyukJae, although he was trying not to show it.
"Still, thank you," Zhou Mi said, cuddling up against KyuHyun, trying to hide the very faith blush.
"Okay, enough with the mushy stuff," YeSung pushed RyeoWook off his lap and hopped up to his feet. "I'm horny, come on Wookie." With that, he pulled the younger up and nearly dragged him towards the bedrooms.
"Um.. night!" RyeoWook waved, nearly stumbling into a wall before he was pulled into one of the rooms.
KyuHyun chuckled, and turned to Zhou Mi. “Maybe we should follow suit?” He could tell that Donghae was pretty much lying on HyukJae’s lap already, and it seemed SungMin was going to have fun them tonight.
"Hm?" Zhou Mi looked up at KyuHyun, smiling cutely. "But it's barely close to morning, I'm not tired yet. Unless you didn't mean sleeping," he said coyly, running a finger up KyuHyun's arm.
“Of course I didn’t mean sleeping.” KyuHyun chuckled, breath hitching a little at the finger, his arms teasing the hem of Zhou Mi’s shirt.
"I guess it's bed time then," Zhou Mi grinned, leaning up to kiss KyuHyun's cheek before climbing off the couch. "No sex on the couch, I don't want to clean that up either," he said, wagging a finger at the other three.
There was a chorus of disappointment and KyuHyun laughed out, pulling Zhou Mi into the room. They might be going on a dangerous mission soon, but tonight, they would have as much fun as they could.
