The Test

Disclaimer, the characters belong to Kishimoto sensei, I just like tormenting them.

Two year old Kari ran screaming through the halls of anbu headquarters with a new recruit in hot pursuit. He was swearing as she evaded his grasp again, dodging under a desk and out the door. Genma watched him tear through the office with amusement, “2000 yen says that he won’t catch her.”

“He was highly recommended by his jounin sponsor,” Raidou murmured, “so I’ll take your bet and say that he eventually catches her.”

“Sure he will,” Cat murmered as he walked in, “when she’s ready for a nap.”

The others in the room laughed. A howl of frustration from down the corridor was heard that sent everyone into gales of laughter. Ibiki walked in, looked around and sighed, “Who do you have trying to catch her this time?”

“Red Tiger,” Genma answered, “bets start at 2000 yen.”

“2000 yen says he is begging for help before the hour is up,” Ibiki threw his money into the pile and walked back to his office.

10 minutes later, Red Tiger was back, looking like he had been through a war zone. His shirt was ripped, his mask askew, his chest heaving for breath, but triumphant nonetheless. Kari dangled from the straps on her jumper, held firmly in the grip of the crazed man.

Genma nearly lost his senbon in shock before he grinned at the man. “Welcome to Anbu, Red Tiger,” he congratulated him, “you have passed the last test with flying colors.”

Red Tiger gave him a slightly insane smile, “you should put this test in the jounin trials, it’s harder than any other mission I have ever been on.”

Raidou grinned at him, “You should see her when it’s not near nap time.”

Red Tiger moaned like a man in the throws of mortal agony. Sasuke wandered in and gave an exasperated sigh. “How many times have I told you to quit torturing the new guys,” he scowled. Kari held out her arms to him and he plucked her out of Red Tiger’s exhausted grip. “Go home and take a nap, you can finish your shift later tonight,” Sasuke patted him on the head sympathetically.

Red Tiger gave Black Wolf a hard look, “whose child is she anyway?”

Sasuke, a.k.a. Black Wolf, grinned, “Mine.” Red Tiger groaned and glared at the two special jounin who had assigned him to chase the two year old. Raidou and Genma looked innocently back at him. “Don’t suppose they bothered to tell you that Kakashi is her godfather.”

Genma and Raidou barely made it out of the way of the thrown kunai. The howl of outrage as Red Tiger went for them could be heard throughout the headquarters. Sasuke shrugged and walked out the door leaving the two special jounin to their fate. He stopped at the commander’s office and poked his head in the door catching the commander’s attention. “I want Red Tiger assigned to my team,” he requested.

The commander looked surprised, “rare of you to ask for someone, what’s so special about this one recruit?”

Sasuke shrugged, “He caught her.”

The commander grinned, “no way. No wonder you're requesting him. There should be a line though once word gets out, so I will have to give him the choice of teams.”

Sasuke nodded, “Figured I would make my request first before the others hear.”

The commander nodded, “noted. I’ll have to let him know he is in high demand.”

Sasuke walked out of Anbu adjusting his sleeping baby to a more comfortable position. He headed toward Iruka’s at a rapid pace. If he as lucky, he may be able to catch a catnap as well, before he had to return to work.

He left Iruka’s an hour later after a refreshing nap and a quick dinner. He shut the door on Iruka scolding Kakashi for teaching Kari how to throw plastic training stars. Sasuke shook his head over that one.  Kakashi would just cuddle up to Iruka and use sex later to make him forget that he was mad. As long as he waited until Kari was asleep, he had a good chance of being forgiven. Sasuke still remembered the damage Iruka had done to his window and Kakashi when he attempted to seduce Iruka in front of a 9 month old baby Kari. Sasuke shuddered, Iruka was a dangerous man when crossed, especially when his little goddaughter was the one he believed in physical or moral danger.

Sasuke slipped into the Anbu office after having stopped by the locker room and changed to his anbu uniform. He had a mission tonight, one that may last a few days, so he was headed for briefing. He saw Red Tiger waiting for him in the hallway.

“You requested me for you team,” he asked surprised. “I was told that Black Wolf wasn’t all that keen on a newbie at his back.”

Black Wolf shrugged, “you managed to catch Shadow Pup, which says a lot for your speed and skill.”

“Shadow pup, huh, hell’s missing daughter would be more appropriate, no offense intended,” Red Tiger mused.

Black Wolf grinned, “That name is more appropriate after Hound has had her for a few days. When I left, Iruka was ready to nail him to the wall for teaching her how to throw practice shuriken at a realistic practice dummy.” Black Wolf paused, “although I guess Gai was a willing victim for that one as well. Some strange challenge about who could avoid the most shurikens.”

Red Tiger shuddered, “oh gods, as long as he doesn’t teach her any jutsus yet we should be safe.”

“The only one he won’t teach her is kage bushin no jutsu,” Black Wolf sighed, “Naruto already did that.” He didn’t think the Anbu mask could go pale, but Red Tiger proved him wrong. “Why do you think he requested a 2 month mission to anywhere, Iruka was ready to rip him into pieces.”

“I can understand the sentiment.” Red Tiger murmured agreement.

“Though that’s not as bad as Gaara trying to teach her how to do Desert Coffin,” Black Wolf pointed out cheerfully, too cheerfully. He still remembered that lesson and the poor doll that had served as its victim. He was pretty sure that Ninja Barbie’s name should have been carved in the stone after everything was said and done.

Red Tiger turned his head to his new commander with a resigned sigh, “I shall pray fervently that you never grace this world with anymore children.”

Black Wolf was still laughing when he walked into Tsunade’s office.
