So, I fell off the map this summer. That's about the best way I can put it, I think. A lot of stuff has not gotten done that I needed to do and a bunch of people have not heard from me in ages and ages but sometimes life happens. And then keeps happening. And then you look up and 3 months have passed.
Moral of the story: sorry for vanishing, but I've had some good reasons ._.
I never know what to post when I go so long between entries, so a quick bullet point list of things that have happened lately while I sit here and listen to Outlands music filtering through my windows:
1) I, uh, I maxed out my
lifedrawing flickr account. I had no idea free accounts had such a low cap on them, but to make life easier for myself I decided to move my
365 critter drawings to tumblr and make my Flickr all Dr. Sketchy's All the Time. It has been pointed out that this is actually to the benefit of all, so that people who would like to look at adorable animal drawings are not bombarded with, like, topless women in Star Wars cosplay.
2) I have kept up with at least one Dr. Sketchy's meeting a month and I'm feeling very good about that. Like, I had a fantastic time last night at the East Bay Branch (pictures to be posted soon) where I did some of the best lifedrawing I've done ever. I'm definitely learning and even if it's not visible 90% of the time, I can feel it.
3) Last night I also had the pleasure of attending the Golden Bowl (regional derby bout) in Oakland. It was so so much fun, I'm so glad I had the opportunity to go watch BAD Girls TOTALLY DEFEAT TEXAS. Not only did it get me fired up about Hey Derby Girl 03 (one of those projects I had to put aside for the summer) but the venue clicked for me visually in a way the previous venue I'd been to didn't. Obviously, I took sketch notes for reference.
4) CAPTAIN AMERICA, EXCUSE ME WHILE I MAKE LITTLE HAND FLAILY MOTIONS ABOUT HOW THAT MOVIE SURPRISED ME BY BEING SUPER ENTERTAINING. LIKEWISE, COWBOYS AND ALIENS.
5) My garden hated the weather this year and I finally gave up. Let the mites have my cacti, let the other mites eat my cabbage, let the squash wither. Whatever, can't fight crazy growing season bug plagues. Next year will be better. Besides, as those of you who read
Littlest Elle know, I am currently engaged in a war against larger vermin.
6) I miss knitting. Maybe this winter?
7) I also miss being productive and making comics. It's amazing to me that I've kept up with
Missing Monday at all, given that I don't have a buffer, but I need to get back into gear and do more than that. Soon. One more epic event of the summer (family wedding) and then maybe I can focus my energy reserves again.
8) I finally bludgeoned Manga Studio into submission so it's ready to go as soon as I am. This entire time I've been using it to ink and such, assuming everything else would be ready to go, but no. Apparently not so much, as I learned last weekend when I tried to do a simple screentone piece. (What is up with that program, seriously? I have never before encountered a program that LIES ABOUT INSTALLING ITSELF and requires elaborate work-arounds just to load the features that supposedly come pre-loaded!)
9) My Little Pony. Ahaha. If I had any mental energy to spare right now, I would be spamming every account I have with PONY PONY PONY art. It is perhaps good for everyone involved that I am lacking in such energy. (Let's be real, the first thing on my hit list would be weird pony Marvel fusion art)
