Mid year crits
So i had my painting review today: Im so thankful that benny came and helped me set up.
There were 3 reviewers,
1 figure printmaker steve Lock said: he could tell i worked hard, he wanted me to paint the snail in a more observative true to real snails way (wich i dont want to do), he wanted me to paint just the snail shell with no snail.
1 teacher/historian from kent state named martin said : i was wasting good paint and was trying to make art with a capitol A like the exressionists with the snail shell matrix.
they told me i should read "the poetics of space" and that i should look at alexis Rockmans work...both men made jokes about eating snails. they found my icecream and my snail woman painting to be the most successful. they said some more good stuff that i cant remember i think.
then the teacher #3 james cambrone (hes on google) who i already thought was awesome said he pretty much dissagreed with a good portion of what they were saying and later said he thought that they were very confusing, wich i agreed with.
It may seem as though im not good at taking critisism and if it were about composition or color etc then maybe i could use that more but they siad i needed to develope the concepts further wich I will do my best.
I dont feel filled up really, I feel very enmpty now. an empty snail would not be able to live, but i am not a snail.
