So today was in the upper 60s which in my family translates into let's be outside as much as humanly possible. First we took the pontoon boat out for a short spin primarily to see what needed fixing on it. That was an adventure in itself. Dad took about an hour getting the motor to run and then we took it on a short spin. Only getting back into the trailer was a trick. Although the weather was beautiful, it was extremely windy. After breaking part of the trailer and then fixing it, I suggested that we park with the current. Yay, boat goes upon the trailer no problem. Only the water level is extremely high, so we didn't see the curb on the boat ramp and ended up crunching the fender a bit. Dad banged it back into place. All is well.
On to the horses. I got Phoenix saddled up and ready to ride. Dad is tacking up Smoky who is right beside Phoenix. I put my foot in the stirrup and pull myself up when Dad yells at Smoky. My horse spooks, pulls a 180, and runs. I'm still standing on the stirrup. The horse is running and I'm deciding whether I should slow him down or if I should swing my leg over and then slow him down. One of parents yells the brilliant solution of getting off. Deciding that I'm in the paddock so the horse can't get very far, so I follow the suggestion. I pull my foot out of the stirrup, look down, push off the horse, realize the horse has picked up speed, and land on my feet. I get up from the crouching postition and go after the horse which has since come to a stop at the other end of the paddock. As I'm walking to the horse, my parent ask if I'm okay. "Fine." Dad, "Did I spook him?" Me furious, "YEEESSS!" I catch up to Pheonix and get on. All is well.
So that's the newest adventure in my life.
