She remembers the feel of the infant's tender hands; the infant she would have called Joy. She had thought she felt a door slam shut that day. As it turns out, a bigger door came flying open; a door to a world she was sure she had left behind that morning in Michigan twenty years ago.
Why did he leave her there?
Why did he need to negate everything?
She believed she had the answers. She believed she was over him, that she didn't need him anymore. That he didn't need her, ever, or want her. Now she is speechless as he leaves her for the second time.
